I’m wondering if it’s heatpump only heat, older hot water heater and heavy hot water usage or possibly electric space heaters. I charge an electric car and work from home and use 1/3 that amount of electricity.

I looked it up, they are 10th in production of potatoes so you weren't entirely wrong :) I live in Gardiner now, we do miss the beaches :)

Haha, you're right, it was a drought from Idaho and Washington state:
I have a poor memory for details when I'm skimming articles.
I've only been to California once, years ago. My friend took me to Long Beach and then he took me for a walk on some mountain trail with lots of greenery. I was amazed by the mountains, lol, because I had never really thought about SoCal as having them, don't ask me why. He was house sitting for some friends in a town named Arcadia. Weirdly, my grandmother from Dexter had a cousin who married a woman from California, and they lived in Arcadia. I just found out recently, when doing some genealogy research. But you are right. Nice beaches, btw.

That’s not to say the majority of people receiving the help won’t need it. I myself spent 515 on my last fill-up for heating oil and that definitely hurt. Some are going to save it for an emergency which also isn’t a bad thing to have since inflation’s still an issue. And yes, SOME may spend it on things they don’t need, which tells me those people must be in a good spot in life. The assumption that Mainers are just going to waste it on frivolity like @ruffled-Grouse is insulting to Mainers though. Assumptions like that about a state that thrives on community is bullshit.

I mean not completely wrong, not everyone receiving the money actually needs it. Heck lot of people probably don’t even need to pay for heat.

I've been designing a database for the local museum. Set my own hours, pretty sweet gig if you don't mind tedious hours of cataloging. As an accountant, I love it so it works well for me and I've gotten to learn a ton about local natural history.

Like CMP's "Assessing", but with money at stake this time instead of electricity! Oh boy gee golly howdy, man I can't wait for weeks and weeks and weeks of the same message...

The op made it sound like this was an especially bad problem in Maine and I wanted to know why they thought that. Not saying we can't do better.

I reach out to popular musicians having meltdowns. Kanye has yet to respond...
But seriously, why would a public figure, even a "locally public figure," be accepting help from "fans?" You might be overestimating your personal connection.

OP- Sees some negative comments online about a musician they don’t even listen to and rushes onto Reddit to complain about the residents of an entire State.
C’mon man, this is embarrassing.

This is one anecdotal situation. I certainly wouldn't characterize Mainers as not supporting their mentally ill friends based on this.

Why does it matter if we’re doing better or worse than others? Wouldn’t you be more interested in living up to your own ideals?
I’m not OP, but personally I’d like to see us do a better job of taking care of those experiencing homelessness, mental illness, etc regardless of how anyone else is doing it. I’d personally like to see my community doing a lot more than we do.

How would you know who is supporting her? You’re making a lot of assumptions with this thread and your comments.

Gonna need this. The kids broke 4 eggs yesterday. I'm not going to financially recover. Mine says payment verified and should be received in the next 3 weeks.
