If you even read my comment a few spots up this thread you'd already know my stance on that.
It doesn't matter if developers build higher end new stuff (which they largely will), because it still frees up older and less desirable supply which should be renting for a lot less than it is.
If you want the Old Port to look like it did in the 1970s, enact a bunch of restrictive rent control and lower income construction requirements and wait 20 years.
The Old Port is literally the charming hipster foodie destination it is because people with money want to live there...

The unfathomable amount of money chasing new construction limits the ability of new construction alone to address the housing crisis.
Workforce housing needs to be built and offered to those who need a home and have the kind of income that can be earned locally.

Reply to comment by eljefino in I get to experience -30 degrees for the first time this coming Saturday. Do I need to be concerned with my well freezing? It’s a standard drilled well with casing and cap. Any advise from my northern friends? Thanks! by MicasNoggin
Thanks. I have a heated basement, hopefully nothing freezes.

It's a debate strategy. I'm picking an absurd extreme to make a point, which is that reality lies somewhere between my extreme and what the person I'm arguing with is saying.
We can't have a rational debate based solely on platitudes and ideologies. I am 100% sure that more housing fixes housing shortages.

Similar experience for me as well, although I had a bit longer of a wait as I was looking for medication management (which I love my doc for).
So glad you found them too! ♥️

No. They bury the pipe from your well to your basement under +/- four feet of dirt, below the frost line.
This winter has been mild so the frost hasn't gotten very far down, and the snow cover insulates the dirt from the cold air above even more.
Like others said, worry about your basement. Don't use a set-back thermostat, one that drops in temp over certain hours, as the time spent dropping is enough time for your heat pipes to freeze. Get a sliver of ice in an elbow and it blocks flow, thereby stopping your heat dead and making things oh so much worse.
Yes heat is expensive, but for 36 hours this upcoming Fri-Sat, run it at 72 degrees.
We had a "cold winter" ten years back and the city pipes were freezing and breaking, but it was in March, when the frost got down beyond its usual level and got to the pipes. Building codes dictate the "four feet" rule depending on your specific area, including a usually adequate margin of safety.

Thanks. Yes, I have a good foot of snow over it with a heated basement.

I found my current therapist through Lifestance. Had a little hiccup before intake where they had the wrong number for me and we played phone tag, but they were quick to get me an appointment once I left a pretty frustrated voicemail (and overall they do seem to be responsive to patients even though, like most providers, they are incredibly busy). I got an appointment for in-person therapy within the week.

Is there a nice toasty layer of snow covering the ground where you are? That will help keep it warm. Also, a deep well is warmed by the earth, which, depending on where you are, is already frozen to about 4 feet deep. Your house pipes, however, not so much. Maintain a slow drip from your faucets.

Your well will be fine. I’ve seen -30 many times no frozen wells. Your car might not start due to the battery. If your house isn’t well insulated and your not running the heat your pipes would freeze.

Probably getting downvoted for their unethical business practices and some of their therapists are junk. Contractor platforms tend to have a really wide range of contractor quality, especially if they have bad quality assessment mechanisms. Hence you being able to find a good therapist even if the company is a bit suss in general.

There’s an episode of Tuca & Bertie that Bertie is trying to find a therapist and she gets one that said the first session should be like a job interview and you should be doing all the questions not them, after all you are the one hiring. It seems obvious now but I never thought about it that way.

You build places for people to live. It's not complex.
