A1 Diner has the most disgusting kitchen I've ever had the misfortune to work in. Hood vents covered in grease and dust so think I could swear I saw fungus growing on it. Fryer oil that hadn't been replaced for a month. A thick coating of dust over everything. Nothing in the prep cooler labeled or dated. A pile of dirty rags in the corner that had been there for a week. No gloves, no hats, no nothing out back.

I refuse to ever step foot in there and I still don't know how that guy still is open with the multitude of health code violations there.

My wife has chickens and has already informed me that my Britts dog crate is being 'repurposed' and placed in the living room. Luckily its only the windchill that's going to be that low.

Make sure you have everything you need as cars don't start well.

If you are worried about you well....leave a cold tap slightly open furthest from where your water enters your house.

Wells fare well and you can thaw pipes. Worry about any animals that may be outside. Once frozen animals don't thaw well. Double down on high energy feed and check water often.

I learned to snowboard at Lost Valley when I was 32. They had an adult group class (as well as kids classes) and it was great to learn with other freaked out adults. It's also big enough of a hill to learn on, w/o it feeling scary but also cheap enough that you don't feel like you are spending a lot on a mountain that you cant use a lot of.

I get that, its just if neither of you have any experience, putting in a couple of hours on Skis is a more gentle introduction to the basic downhill concepts which transfer between disciplines.

quick tip, DO NOT try to catch a sudden fall with your arms. broken wrist is very common injury for beginners on a board. just cross your arms over your chest and wear a proper helmet.

AWD; Impreza WRX. Does help with turning. Just use the gas pedal rather than the brake. Pulls you through the turn. FrontWD same deal but the backend wants to come around so studs help there. Winter driving dynamics are an interesting thing to learn. Almost suggest taking a driving class as its amazing the difference.

It's also not just icy hills but black ice thats often common. I was told that in AK it's a lot dryer and cold so salt isn't used as much, more snow on the roads, that negates the general need for studs

This is why we turn our heat in the basement up before leaving for vacation. The couple bucks worth of heating is worth it. If your basement is nice and warm your house can stay above freezing for awhile should the power go out.
