Force everyone who runs into it to retake the drivers license test.

They're called pillars. The one that holds the windshield is the A-pillar. The one between the doors in the B-pillar. The further back ones just keep going down the alphabet.

I suppose, but how is that different from every other Wally World parking lot ? That bollard is just out there in the wild...not really protecting a doorway or anything. I propose a ginormous traffic cone that they can bounce off !

It’s right in front of where customers come out so it’s easy to get distracted, the turn is also an acute angle and feels natural to cut the corner. The sign/bollard also often lines up with the windshield pillars.
Source: my wife hit the pole, and I came embarrassingly close once.

I knew something was up when I got to the FWD car with buckets of sand in the back. LMFAO!

My guess is that it's older people, already twitchy because its a busy parking lot, cutting the corner in such a way that the stop sign is directly in the little blind spot created by the uh... you know... the strips of metal that hold your windshield in place. I'm sure there's a name for those.

On the contrary, in York County houses down here tend to be not built for cold so a lot of places' pipes freeze every time there's a cold snap. I grew up in Caribou and our pipes never froze. I find people are less used to it down here and many have no idea what to do about it.

Great post, part about Somalia should be the mandatory reply to anyone whining about anything on r/Maine.

Is there something specific about that particular bollard ( If it is indeed the famous one) that makes it such a common target ?

"introduce yourself to any neighbors you have that are visibly pretty old because they have a higher chance of dying."
As a visibly pretty old neighbor, this cracks me up.

-
Proximity activated trainhorn
-
Make it look like a person holding a sign
-
Replace it with an inflatable flailing arms tube man
-
Armed security force that fires without warning
-
Pile a bunch of empty shipping containers around it
-
Straight up just remove the goddamn thing because what is it even there for, since you don't need a stop sign to understand that you're supposed to stop at the end of a row of parking spaces like literally this is driving 101 why is there a stop sign there
-
Add a second stop sign a few feet from this one, so that people stop before plowing into them both
-
>!The Second Stop Sign is actually a Decoy Snail!<
-
Tire spikes

Or just stay inside for the 2 days it's going to be cold. No need to prepare to trudge across the tundra. There's a heatwave coming next week.

Two years from now there’s gonna be an entire gated community just to protect the pole.
And someone will still find a way to flip their car on it.

I'm in southern York County now and it's not something you see down here. At least I haven't. I'm in town though and don't get out in the puckerbrush too much any more.
