Have you ever been to Houston, TX? They don't have zoning rules, and its a shithole nightmare of sprawl.

Publicly shaming people that are expressing their opinion peacefully at a municipal meeting is not the way to win them over to your cause. I certainly may not agree with their NIMBYism, but I will defend their right to express their opinions. If I want to disagree, that's what my three minutes at the microphone are for.

My grandson, 15, has two grandparents with PHDs, all other adults with Masters or more, everyone in some sort of educational or health care field, and he wants to be an electrician. He likes to hunt and fish and wants to be able to control his time and not incur tons of college debt. We are all for it.

New luxury housing means that the other housing doesn’t become luxury housing… I don’t see any sense in discouraging it.

I think it would be a lot easier to have a massive sales tax on short term rentals as an alternative to property tax. It accomplishes the same thing while being much more enforceable.

Rural communities don’t necessarily need to meaningfully change if urban communities don’t force them to by refusing to be… urban. Cities are better equipped for scaling public works, so let’s stop zoning them for single family housing.

Sorry to say that UMaine projects don’t have a strong track record, especially when good existing solutions for the root cause already exist.

I’ve said multiple times that human error is mostly to blame. You’re the one steadfastly denying that the poor design has anything to do with why so many people happen to crash into this one pole. No, it has to just be extremely coincidental that all these bad drivers happen to hit the same pole. The design is perfect.
Good luck on your crusade to make everyone a perfectly attentive driver. Meanwhile I’ll continue to operate in the real world.

I remember when you could tie a deer down across the passenger side of the front hood of the large cars driven in the 1960’s. There were so many driving down the Maine Turnpike on Sundays heading South during deer season. We would see them returning from visiting grand parents.

I mean, it makes sense that the news is covering it - people need to know to not leave their animals outside and try not to be caught in the weather. You can get frostbite in less than 10m.

Sure wind chill in my area it's -32 to -40 with wind chill. Cold sure. But for 36 hours no need to have a panic.
I understand the stress on the unhoused population I really do, and there are a multitude of resources out there for them.

it is irrational since it’s possible we break some records. it’s not the end of the world but it’s certainly news worthy.

Since Maine bills itself as Vacationland and tourism generates a lot of revenue for the state, I don't know how you address the AirBnB taking up housing stock and second homes sitting vacant. Maine is all about short term rental housing for the summer.

And you sound like a person who can’t accept responsibility for your own faults and has to pass the blame off onto others.
Pay attention when you’re driving. Drive on the correct side of the road. And turn properly into the correct lane, without cutting corners. Do those things, and that pole is a non-issue.
You obviously know nothing about the responsibility that comes with operating a motor vehicle, and ensuring that you don’t endanger others around you, if you think a highly visible, stationary object that is not in any lane of travel, nor in any sensible path for a left turn down that aisle, is the problem here.
All the engineering in the world can’t fix stupid, and that’s the only thing that’s causing these crashes.
