I would just take the concord coach bus from Portland to NYC. Granted it is or it was 150 per person round trip but at least you can take your bags, they handle the driving and you can sit back and relax and you don't have to deal with parking in NYC.

Maine has a law regarding outside housing : it needs to consist of a four (4) sided structure and roof made of waterproof and wind proof material with an R factor of .9 (example: .9=3/4” thickness of wood). The article states it is plywood. Most common plywood is 1/2 inch. I don’t know how thick the plywood is that he is using, but I have a sneaking suspicion it’s not 3/4” thick. Plywood is also not waterproof in it’s natural state. The law also states that the portal of entry of sufficient size to allow the dogs unimpeded passage which shall include baffled or appropriate sheltered entrance. The opening must face south or the direction away from which most wind driven precipitation comes from. It also must have a solid floor at least 3 inches above ground level, with clean and sufficient bedding material to retain the animals normal body heat. At -20 degrees, a dog is vulnerable to hyperthermia and frostbite.

The animal welfare program will, upon written complaint by ANY person alleging violation will cause an investigation to be made. If a violation is found to exist , the animal welfare program or attorney general may seek enforcement remedies including but not limited to revocation or suspension. I made a complaint today and I suggest everyone else to. You can write a formal complaint to animal.welfare@maine.gov In the complaint, it does need your name and phone number. It also needs to include the name of the animals owner’s physical address and a description of possible violations. Let’s all come together and do the right thing - make the complaints. There’s power in numbers. We have the power to make the change, but it needs to be a community effort.

You can also contact Kathleen Bernard. She is on the Maine Animal Welfare Advisory Council. She must own a pet and represent the interests of the public in animal welfare.

Bonnie Martinolich is also on the council. She is an attorney and has to have experience in Animal Welfare Laws.

Sharon St. John represents licensed breeding kennels in Maine. She is another person to file a complaint with.

I don’t know the circumstances of the owner, but he called his dogs ‘his babies’. Would you leave a baby outside in -20 degrees? Disability or mental health issues (hoarding) does not justify this issue. It needs to be addressed.

Typical bigot. You've made so many assumptions based on your bigoted view of Maine, it is pathetic. You're singling people out based not upon their skill, but how they look. You're just the typical bottom of the barrel bigot. Unfortunately there are several billion people like you.

I consider white people that have high fragility and a victim mentality to be assholes. A certain type of asshole. Luckily for me, most of my neighbors have all traveled the world, and they know what Maine does and does not have to offer. We talk about it all the time actually. The majority of them are Mainers themselves, and will readily admit that there are very few good restaurants in the state that serve ethnic food. So far I've found 2. Obviously we all live in the same area, and Maine is a big place. But I haven't seen or heard that Northern Maine is bursting with intensely good restaurants either. I haven't heard many positive things about Northern Maine at all....but I remain open to it.

If someone from Maine "shits all over" the state, is it different than if I do it? I'm sure you will say yes since I'm from "away....", lol.

And really, that's what people responded to here. They are getting themselves worked up because they don't like the idea of being told that in fact, no- white people can't do everything well. Especially when they don't take the time to learn about other cultures and ethnicities before trying to do it.

You and I both know that what passes for sushi here wouldn't meet the bar in a big city, or in Japan. You pretty much admitted that.

Food is culture. If you don't know shit about the culture you are trying emulate in your food, then chances are you are going to fail. Again, I'm totally willing to be proven wrong. I've willingly gone to restaurants that said they served up "Authentic" Korean dishes when there wasn't a single Korean face anywhere to be seen. I've walked into "Japanese" places where there wasn't a single Japanese face to be seen. And the fact that I did that speaks volumes, because I supported them. I gave them a chance to wow me, and they totally didn't.

I have been proven wrong in some places. I actually went to Boston and ate wonderful Japanese food mostly run by Chinese people. But the guy had lived in Japan for over 20 years, so he knew his shit. I actually am very happy when I see this kind of thing, because to respect a culture is to know it!

I love what Maine does have to offer. It was not my first choice but I'm actually enjoying it most of the time. But you Mainers need to honest here- Ethnic food is not your strong point. You need more people of color to really do that right, and that's something you simply don't have.

Thanks for the olive branch. I'm actually a very kind person, I just get sick of the lack of cultural diversity here and then the denial that there needs to be any, and the racism that shows when there is.

While I certainly don’t believe anyone in a town should have 42 dogs, it does appear though that if the animals were healthy after the cold (unless he started with 50 dogs) then the shelter provided was at least enough to spare them lasting damage. I know with chickens, pigs, and goats the only thing they need for shelter is something to keep the wind out, and they are fine even down to those cold temps.

Ah ha! Your white fragility is totally showing! CAUCASION PEOPLE ARE NOT AN ETHNIC GROUP. You are confusing "race", which is an unscientific label, with ethnicity. CAUCASION PEOPLE ARE MADE UP OF MULITPLE ETHNIC BACKGROUNDS. Do I really have to fucking explain this?!?

One more time, obviously you need to work on your reading comprehension skills, or lack thereof:

>I said they don't do it well

Operative word being "don't." You need to go back to college, or maybe even high school.

When you use someone's ethnic make up as your reasoning for saying they can/cannot do something (whether you add "well" into it or not) you are being bigoted. Caucasian people are in fact an ethnic group, so yes, racism against Caucasian people does exist.

Make all the assumptions you please, you're using racist arguments to support your claim. You're acting as if no Caucasian person is capable of learning how to cook food of another culture, not every Caucasian cooks like Jamie Oliver you know.

While I wholeheartedly agree, apparently the courts do not. Someone staying more than two weeks at your residence gains legal tenant rights vs just being a guest, even if they do not pay rent. It’s a shitshow. Last time I’ll ever be helping someone out in this way. Was a totally civil situation until today when I had the wrong door locked and suddenly she screaming about cops and court.
