It sounds like you don’t already have a preference for linear vs tactile switches. If you did then you wouldn’t be asking this question. I would recommend going with linear switches, but not these reds. Get the barebones V1 and a set of gateron milky yellow pro switches and some cherry profile double-shot pbt keycaps. It will sound and feel amazing. I have that exact setup. Milky yellows are amazing linears for the price (less than $25 to kit out that whole board), and the pro version has surprisingly good and consistent factory lube and the latest molds yielding very good tolerances and minimal stem wobble. A set of decent cherry profil PBT key caps will sound and feel better than the stock keychron ones. The keychron caps are pretty, but they sound loud and kind of high-pitched. Not conducive to creamy thock. Lots of solid keycap sets on Amazon for around $30 or $40. I have had luck with the ones from mintcaps. Yeah, a bunch of them are clones. There are some ethical considerations there, but $120+ for keycaps is ridiculous. Buying the switches and caps and a barebones V1 will cost you about an extra $40-50 versus the prebuilt version, but you will get a board that will be truly enthusiast-grade rather than just a good prebuilt that you can upgrade later.

Keyboard-wise, just my MT3 Pulse kits, from Drop.

I already have everything I need for my next build, except those.
I need to cut a custom plate, and want to have precise keycap measurements before doing so.
I want to distribute the space bar row as uniformly as possible, and can't do that accurately without those measurements.

I just finished my first mechanical keyboard!

From the beginning I used some cheap keycaps and switches, and it wasn't easy to get out them. I even broke a couple switches, but overall I enjoyed the process. It's the quietest keyboard I've ever used in my life. The only downside at the moment is that the macro buttons are smaller, probably need to change them to something else. Also "backspace" button is very loud, but anyway the final result is great!

What's inside:

Keychron Q6 Barebone, stock.

Gazzew Boba U4S RGB.

ePBT 9009 Keycap Set.
