Reply to After months of waiting, i finally spotted a mechanical keyboard at my local thrift store. Razer Huntsman Elite for $15. Seems to work perfectly(lights are good, types great). This is my first nice keyboard. by deadbolt500
Good find, congratulations!
For cleaning, I'd start by removing the keycaps and giving them a bath in some warm soapy water. While they're soaking, take a vacuum with the brush attachment to get all the dust and nastiness. You could air can it, but I personally wouldn't want to blow the dirt and who know what else in my house. Rinse and completely dry the keycaps and you should be good to go. Happy typing

Yup. Just knew the model from reading the back. Learning a ton today already!

Are you sure it's the Huntsman? It looks EXACTLY like my Razer Blackwidow Elite.

Which one in particular? Their mechanical keyboard reviews seem fair (e.g. rightfully calling out the Drop Sense75 as overpriced). Of course they don't cover the more niche enthusiast boards, but their takes on mainstream boards are about in line with the community's sentiments.
Their glowing Keychron Q2 review is what got me into mechanical keyboards so I'd argue that they're doing more or less the opposite of gatekeeping.
Edit: are you talking about the PCMag article? https://www.pcmag.com/opinions/buying-a-mechanical-keyboard-broke-me (whew this one was wild)

Honestly I did come off as rude, I wouldn’t harp on somebody buying something used, like I go thrift shopping all the time. But that keyboard just gave me bad vibes like it came from a Cheeto gamer that scratches his sack and alt f4s every losing game. I get buying a used board or keycaps, BUT NOT THAT. Feel like if u flipped it upside down a bunch of fingernails would fall out.

Honestly, it’s a great buy. I don’t know why others are being negative

Idk my local microcenter has great clearance deals on some of their older keyboards. Only reason I said it cause I was there recently and saw them. I got some Astro a50s for 80 bucks cause it’s an ugly color way lol. ($250 value)

I'm def not an expert but it depends a lot on how hard you smack your keys I think. For me they're not as silent, maybe if I typed 'lighter' and less bottom out they'd be semi silent, but with the SA keycaps and my typing they're def not silent :) sorry for the worthless review. EDIT: I do like them though

I don't think I would use the word nice to describe this keyboard. Good find but looks like it has a disease. Happy hunting :-)

For $30 I don’t think you’d be getting anything great. Cleaning it would be just fine
