I've got a PS/2 HHKB that I need to clean up. bought it at Comdex Las Vegas in fall of 1999 for $20. Still works. Used it almost 20 years before I switched to a HHKB USB. Some keys are faded.
Typing this on a black USB HHKB.

Yeah but then again why get him a fully custom build keyboad.
I can't imagine that he cares about lubed switches and a fully modded keyboard. He probably uses it to type a little he's not a typist or something. Honestly to me this more seems like a selfish keyboard build than a wonderful present ... yes you can get your parents nice things but to him a keyboard is probably a keyboard.

He mentioned in the post that his dads old keyboard has died, this is expensive I agree, but this will most definitely last him a lot longer and be much nicer to use.

EDIT: It's possible but I've not seen many 73 y/o keyboard enthusiasts out there. Just seems like a strange present imo.
