They are usually fixed with a small indent/pin and a screw holding onto the cable sleeve. Not very secure just as that. Add some 2K epoxy filling onto all that and it's never ever going anywhere

I've had my introduction to the 40% world with this handwired, 3D-printed, ortholinear board. It was a blast (first time soldering) and I'm looking to extend myself a little further with soldering, qmk and 40% layouts (but probably not designing something completely from scratch yet). Anyone got any suggestions on what I could build next?

I personally like them. Akko V3 Cream Blues feel like smoother Lavender, I did not lube mine. Cream Yellows are also good , quite smooth stock but not the smoothest (I.e. my KTT Strawberry are way smoother), still I’d choose them over Gateron Yellow G Pro 2.0.

Both have a distinctive “marbly” sound that differentiate from the rest of Akko switches.

I really wish they ran this GB again. Sucks that I wasn't part of the community when it first ran.

Been remapping to this since getting a HHKB pro 2. It's so much better, as are the split right shift/fn key and the control in caps lock's location.

I am wondering if you have a cherry profile space bar and if I can get a picture of it on there? :) Someone is selling a sandglass on mechmarket if they still have it and I don't like gaps around my space bars like I have on my keychron q10 so wondering if it still has that gap with cherry. Also does it have any flex or bounce at all when fullt assembled?

They take a bit of getting used to from the browns, as the actuation force jump is somewhat big so your gonna have to use more energy when pressing the keys, but after awhile they feel will feel and sound premium, highly suggest giving them a shot

Not exactly. You can't just simply make more keycaps, that's not how production works. I think PBTFans is a similar example to making keycaps first and selling them in stock, since there's quite a bit of stock sold at vendors and from KBDFans after the GB, but the tradeoff is less designs for how much they can produce. Arguably better or worse considering how many different GMK sets are released vs PBTFans, but I feel that argument could have more factors to it.

Absolutely right 2 years of waiting shouldn't be the standard though, nor was it ever intended to be. I think there is some leeway to be given since they did struggle with keeping employees during the pandemic, but I also think its GMK's fault for taking so many projects maybe during that time and after. GBs are a result of the community just wanting to take customization to a higher level back in the day with keycaps community members designed themselves, and getting people to join them was the only way to make that happen. 3 years ago when I got into the hobby people talked about how these GBs took like 9 months on average, but that's also when the hobby blew up at the beginning of the pandemic and now here we are at 2 years for recent sets.

At the very least they're putting out sets faster, and they even announced they put in a massive amount of money into more sorting machines, so I'm hoping the sets on the bottom of the queue aren't 2 year waits.

I'm just trying to say its not super unreasonable, just super unfortunate.

Oh yeah 100% agreed, precision like that by hand is proving to be super inconsistent. I'll also take some measurements with my micrometer for posterity's sake and post a comment as well!

The problem is that most digital calipers use metric as their base, then convert it to inches.

meaning the inches you on screen see are rounded up or down.

Looks like the reason why you have a large difference in size is mostly due the manufacturer having a 0.01mm error margin.

Shaving off a few 10ths of a millimeter is quite hard, since giving just a little bit too much force will result in large differences.
