I once helped a friend decide on pre-built options (switch, form factor, low profile or not, etc). I mentioned something about liking both low profile and regular. He said “wait you have both?”. I just said yeah.

I didn’t know how to tell him I’m at over 20 keyboards lmao.

Are you resting your palm on the desk? That's the only way I can think that you might be straining your wrist.

If so...

  1. Ideally, you shouldn't be resting your wrist/palm while typing or gaming. This causes strain as you're describing.
  2. A wrist rest is not the correct solution. These are meant for resting your palms while you are not typing. While typing or gaming, they will restrict your hand movement and possibly cause more strain if your palm remains stationary.
  3. If possible, try moving your keyboard deeper into your desk. This allows you to rest your upper forearm on the edge of the desk and act as a pivot point which should give you the height you need for a proper typing (or gaming) experience.

Maybe try using a random obejct as a wrist rest and see if it helps. I just recently bought my first custom keyboard (keychron q1) and also found it to hurt my wrist.

I'm currently using the cardboard box my milky yellows came in and it definitely helped. Probably going to buy a wrist rest soon.

If you still find it uncomfortable, then maybe buy some shorter keycaps? Then again, I'm new to this hobby so I'm not really familiar to different keycap sizes and stuff, but using a random object as a wrist rest really helped.

I just rebuilt an old Tecware Phantom with Akko Lavenders and they are amazing for the price. I also have a second Phantom rebuilt with Akko Yellow Creams and they sound phenomenal. However, I hate the typing experience on them. They feel fine, but my accuracy is terrible on linear switches. The Lavenders are a lot more clack than thock, but I am much more accurate on them.

On a side note, take that old Logitech with the Cherry Blues and do a quick mod on it. I have an old Cooler Master with MX Blues. I syringe lubed the switches with Superlube, tape moded the back of the board, lubed the stabilizers, and popped some thicker PBT caps on it. The change is massive. It sounds and feels better than a similar board I have with MX brown switches in it. I intend to do the same mods to that board and see what I end up with.

I also intend to try on the Gazzew switches at some point. I think I'll prefer the U4T though as the U4s are silent, and lack any real thock, which is something I prefer. Finding them in stock is always the problem.
