Just looked at that kit. Nothing crazy going on there, and it’s pretty difficult to mess these up, so I wouldn’t stress.

Did you get a hotswap PCB?

The only part that might be strange for a first timer is soldering switches (which you will only need to do if you did NOT get a hotswap PCB) and lubing your stabilizers and switches. Lubing your stabilizers and switches are optional but highly recommended. The best videos on those two processes are definitely Taeha Types’ videos, and he is very thorough with his descriptions and video demonstrations.

I just saw this build video and it’s very straightforward: https://youtu.be/Kza9uqgGfhQ

It might help to know what you’re actually doing on each step in this video, and why. If you really still feel like you need a helping hand, I’m willing to hop on a Discord call to walk you through it.

Most keyboards are a “you do it once and you know it forever” type of deal. I wouldn’t be so stressed about it. It is just a keyboard in the end.

Don't live in the US, so that is quite a bit out of the way for me.

Checked with the price, and 445$ for a fully decked out Dactyl, is quite a lot.

Thanks :)

I'm still looking for a typing layout. I hesitate between dorvak or colemak, both seems good and don't know which one to try first.

For the other layer my keymap are pretty much done. Will only need to do some adjusting when I'm gonna use it.

I will use this baby mostly for programming :D

Edit: finally go for the colemak one I will try it now :D

Welcome to the club! I went from full size to a Corne (and converted to colmak) in a single step. I love it. Look at the miryoku layout if you haven’t settled on one yet. It makes the transition easier.

Yes, a good quality dome with slider like Topre is one of my favorite feeling switches. Particularly with dampeners on the upstroke since the dome itself already dampens the bottom out. But my biggest issue is that I like custom boards and custom capacitive PCBs are not easy. So while I have an old Realforce and I love the switches, I never use it. Someday I would love to build a custom Topre style dome with slider keyboard. Either getting a working PCB and controller for the capactive sensing or possibly using a different sensing method like hall effect.

It took me around 10 days to get 80 of my 100 WPM back after transitioning from 75% to Lily58, and the first few days were not fun.

That being said, Lily58 was somewhat of a compromise on my part. Ideally I'd get something with more physical keys, but stuff like Moonlander would be over €500 after taxes.
