I have the same keyboard except different color. Honestly the layout is amazing and I have been so much more productive with it as a software engineer. This keyboard with the Mx Master 3 from Logitech on a Macbook Pro has been my setup for years now.
I do remember being pissed off at the layout in the beginning, but now I'm pissed off when I have to work without it.

Reply to (Re)Finished HHKB Tokyo60 by WingedGeek
Following up from the other day... Rebuilt the Tokyo60 kit (Coyote colorway, which, when did Coyote become a thing?), this time with:
- Gateron Ink Baby Kangaroo switches (like them more than the Halo Clear switches, but they’re not my absolute favorite; may redo it yet again, when I lube the stabilizers, with maybe Boba U4T switches?)
- NovelKeys screw in stabilizers replacing the stock ones from the kit, which were totally tweaked and basically unusable
- DROP + Tokyo Season 4 Dyesub PBT keycaps for the HHKB layout
- Generic M2-0.4 mm screws (4mm length) to mount the board to the case (missing from the used kit I bought)
- Nillkin keyboard risers (“feet”) affixed with adhesive to the bottom of the board. I probably could have gone with something fixed (I’m just using these without the collapsible feet extended, to get like 6mm tilt up for the back edge), but I didn’t know that before I tried these...
I could not initially figure out how the inserts were supposed to go into the sleeves but after watching some lubing videos I figured it out (and it's obvious in hindsight). Next up, I suppose: Actually getting some lube and finishing the stabilizers (I’m just running them dry for now). This is my first non-prebuilt, and it’s been a fun learning experience!
If anyone’s supremely bored...

Once you go 40% and get a layout working for you, you'll never go back.
Try putting the numbers on a layer under home row, F-keys on the bottom row and the shifted symbols on QWERTY. It works well once you get used to it! Even better if you use one of the spacebars as an FN key to toggle that layer.
Great job with the build BTW! I'd love to build one of these if only it had a few more keys on the right side like my MiniVan.

As someone who also went down the same path with the exact same Filco but a TKL, you'll find it considerably more comfortable typing on a smaller keyboard once you adjust to the layout.
I much prefer the new accented colors Fujitsu provides than the older and darker red/blue combo.
Enjoy being one with cup rubber!

Yeah this was really a jump for me. I've never used anything other than full sized. I had a TKL for a week but it had blues and was my first experience with blues so I didn't keep it.
It really feels premium and if it doesn't work out I won't lose much on it. But so far it's extremely easy to adjust to, I just made delete backspace and changed the windows buttons to windows buttons and an addition function.
My only gripe is I have to figure out a new push to talk key for discord. I am debating going with the windows key, or making it something like a 2 key press, but right now I'm trying out voice activation which I'll probably hate. We'll see!

I have been Topre-curious for a little while now. I'm particularly drawn to the HHKB due to the layout. I'm generally much more interested in 40/ortho/split/weird stuff, but every time I see the HHKB it calls to me.
It's just a lot of money to take a chance on and I have no idea how I could try one without buying. For now I'll live vicariously through you.
I hope you enjoy your new keeb!

thanks for the recommendation. Are they more quiet than the Bobas? Less mushiness would be nice, although my main concern is still the noise
