I don't know if I'm in the minority here, but my boards rarely do what the legends of the keycaps say. I have layers and layers of all sorts of different functions on my 40%s all the way up to my TKLs that do exactly what I want/need. No one ever 'lives without' a key.

I would even argue my smaller keyboards, like my Corne, that appear to be 'missing' a ton of physical keys can end up with more keys that are easier to reach than much larger boards. Example being, there's no number row on the Corne but by simply holding down one of the Fn keys I end up with a full numpad that I can mash out numbers in without looking and with one hand; something I'm unable to do with just the standard row of numbers above the alphas. It makes those keys kind of pointless, especially if you have to move your hand to reach a key.

Genuine question. I see lot of people's builds using keycaps with Japanese kana on them. Is half of the subreddit secretly 日本語上手?

Oh OK cool. Ummm I'm not really sure what all the terms are that you all are using. What's a good resource on how to build my own? Is that what you all are doing building these from different components?

The arrow keys are readily available on a layer for when I need them, usable by my right hand. Then my left is available for Ctrl / Shift / whatever other key I need to press along with arrows. I am a software developer so don't need arrows too much.

Honestly the hardest thing about the layout is playing RTS games like Age of Empires.
