I got caught with that too on the cannonkeys bogo keycaps. Keycaps were $80usd + 40usd shipping then got hit with $35 DHL fees. Never ordering from across the border again. Will be giving my business to canadian vendors such as Ashkeebs

I actually quite like my DIY spacebars. I originally bought some 2.25u spacebars off of AliExpress and they were not only soulless but also not particularly comfortable. So I took my time designing/printing/sanding some homemade ones. The really important step, for me, was sanding that edge of the spacebar against which my thumbs rest. That had to be smooth and curved. Next most important was to get many many layers of clearcoat on it. That gave it a finished feel.

Anyway, fwiw, here's my .STL for it: 2.25u spacebar

The fees from DHL are set by DHL and CBSA - until KBDFans hires a brokerage agent for Canada and takes on that added cost, it’s intrinsic risk when importing items into the country.

If you don’t want to deal with that then go buy from shockport and minokeys, who handle all unexpected duties/brokerage so all you pay is GST/PST.

P.S: if you think DHL fees are bad, make sure you never get anything shipped from UPS 😬

Yeah being Canadian is rough sometimes with import fees. I remember buying $100 keycaps from the US, and having to pay $30 for duties at Canada post. I still have a fairly positive opinion on DHL though because they’ve always delivered extremely fast internationally. Like sometimes sometimes within the next day or two from China.

less of an issue with the price and more that they didn't tell me, they say they dont know the prices but im not the first person in the world to buy in canada, they can tell me what it costs before they ship it but instead they make you pay after so if u return it your still losing money

That's a DHL thing. I never ever ship with DHL, I always ask anybody outside of Canada to ship with their national postal service and to put in a request to hand it off to Canada Post once it arrives in Canada. Much fairer duty fees and none of the ridiculous markups the other courier services have (DHL is the worst one though).

No, not really. The keys are a little recessed (like less than half a mm), wich I much prefer to the keys sticking out so far that you can peek below, even if it’s just a tiny bit. And I mean in high profile cases not in low profile cases where this is supposed to be like that.
