For me, it’s the song ‘Hurricane’ by Bob Dylan, and the following line:
> Think it mighta been that fighter that you saw runnin' that night? / Don’t forget that you are white
The song is a triumph both musically and narratively, but that lyric just always sounded so clunky to me. Like a lazy attempt to signpost his message, even though it’s already very clear that the song is about the evils of racism and the injustice of cases like Rubin Carter’s. I love the song, but that line makes me physically wince every time I hear it.
