I’m not a music expert, I don’t know what’s considered a great song structurally. I have listened to 1000’s of songs action every genre in my life though. I think El Paso by Marty Robbins might be a perfectly written song. It just flows like very few songs do. It’s got numerous classic lines. The opening line alone is perfect and hooks you in. The rest of the song just kind of floats if that makes sense.
Then you add in Marty Robbins wonderful voice and it’s magic. If it’s not the perfectly written song, it’s definitely the best “story” song ever written. Plus it transcends genres and is more than just a country song.
