I haven’t listened to a full hip hop album in probably a decade that wasn’t OutKast or the Beastie Boys, maybe there is another one or two, but I can’t recall.
I have seen Run the Jewels recommendations here and there, and had it on my list of albums to listen to. I didn’t even know the genre, I thought it would be something like Alt-J.
I was doing some wood work, so I threw it on, loud.
I am hardly a hip hop connoisseur, but I like to think I have good taste in music, and this album is fantastic. I can’t say I relate to the lyrics, and I won’t be able to listen frequently, since I am middle aged, kids in home, rolling the suburbs in a minivan, but I found a way to listen 4 times in the last 24 hours.
The rap flow and energy are top notch to my ears, and the beats, song structure, sound selection and creativity are top tier.
Late to the party on this, mostly for reasons cited above, but wanted to share.
