Why do some people have a genuine hate for metal?
I've seen that some people have an absolute hate for metal for no reason, not even 'I don't listen to metal', just hate. My brother and some of my friends who are into rap and pop music are an example. Although I'm primarily a metalhead, I also enjoy some rap and trap songs with them. I'm not a gatekeeper, I don't shove metal down their throats, I just listen to it primarily on my own and play metal guitar because whenever I practice guitar I just want to play what I like and go away as I don't have time in school now to cover everything and all genres, although I also cover some song requests of my friends.
I don't act superior about it, I don't do anything that may make them dislike metal. I understand that some people may not like the more extreme metal so I try to show them some melodic, slow paced and beautiful songs of Kreator and Megadeth on guitar that they might like. However, they just pass it off as 'trash music', 'horrible taste', 'no one listens to metal', without any reason whatsoever.
They call the lyrics cringe, unreadable and stupid while they glorify the same rap lyrics that repeat misogyny, gang culture and pride. I don't even mind that, maybe some people just listen to rap for the beats and the hype, I like rap too.
I don't understand it at all because I always avoided being a gatekeeping metal douchebag and tried showing people the musical elements of metal, avoiding too extreme songs.
Is it me being an annoying metalhead or is it them?
