It’s likely Aretha Franklin who could sing any genre of music except heavy metal. She even managed to pull off opera music. Pop. Soul. R&B. Rock. She could do it all and do it at an extremely high level.

I definitely disagree with your take on mainstream music. Dark side of the moon is hugely experimental, one of the least radio friendly, middle of the road albums to sell millions of copies. I think people like you who prefer edgy, underground artists still a lot of the time try to give reasons the classics aren't "great" to them, rather than just say they aren't their taste. Not knowing anything about music definitely influences the ear as well. Bands like Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, and Pink Floyd are made up of objectively phenomenal musicians, and they definitely use that ability in their song writing. Not being able to recognize harmonies and musical elements, I can see why someone would find them a bit boring. (For the record, David Bowie isn't the type of music I'd download, but I recognize what makes his music creative)

Captain Sir Kevin Darling or Captain Darling
If you're an NCO, the first Sir is adequate. You wouldn't have to address them as 'Captain Sir Kevin Darling Sir', although they probably would just to take the piss.

I get that this is your own take, but you clearly haven't been around as long as the band has. There was a relatively long period when they were among the most respected rock bands in the world.

how bout hero of war by rise against, its not really about world war 1 speciffically but just war in general, with some pretty depressing lyrics
or if you want something actually related to ww1 but a little more light hearted, try christmas truce by sabaton, it talks about an actual historical christmas eve during ww1 where i believe germans and English soldiers stopped fighting for a bit to give each other gifts and play some good ol fashioned football/soccer

The late, great, Chris Cornell might have something to say about that whole “powerful voice” statement.

Game of war by of mice and men
I think the song is actually about a bad relationship but it still sorta…feels like a war song?

Apart from the "atomic fear" line, I have always felt that Black Sabbath - Children of the Grave is an amazing song to be set to WWI. Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls is up there as well.

I personally don't hate them but I've never bought their albums. The songs they are known for are good. The ones that they had when they started. But after that , for me at least, they became too full of themselves and seemed to try too hard to be something they are not.

Lionel Ritchie cannot sing for shit on a live stage. His performance at his Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame induction a few months ago was embarrassing. While watching it my wife turned to me and said “he no longer has the right to criticize any singer on American Idol”. I agree.

Freddie Mercury couldn't sing A Change Is Gonna Come with the same beauty of Sam Cooke. Freddie Mercury just isn't the be all and end all vocalist.

I love Sam Cooke. He’s just fantastic. That said, Sam Cooke could not sing Tie Your Mother Down.

Well I hope it helps you find something. :)
She's got a lot of GREAT songs, but I've found a lot of people THINK they don't like her music because they're used to knowing what an artist sounds like based off of one or two tracks but . . . you can't do that with her.
