Like I said I answered my own question.
But given what cinema and television did for music in past generations, I think the answer is yes? ( I think you thought you had something, but let's be real. Netflix is a huge platform and Stranger Things is their biggest show? )
Social media aided its longevity and numbers perhaps but it would've happened regardless. Plenty of songs have blown up from being used in shows and commercials.
I mean look at Lizzo.

I had only a fleeting impression but I thought that more about Freddie Mercury.

Did the song go viral on Netflix or social media platforms like tiktok?
Where would it have had the chance to go viral, if the internet was just a consumer medium like TV and radio?

Thanks for the warning, I'll go in with an open mind!
Yeah, that's my favorite version of State of Love and Trust. I appreciate how different they made the songs for that performance, especially Porch.

Not the first time i promise myself to find the time to sit down and enjoy albums from beginning to end, but giving it another shot this year.
Best start i could imagine: Wild is the Wind by Nina Simone. What a voice and such powerful lyrics.

Second to Freddie Mercury who he adored. In fact, GM was by far the best performer at the FM Tribute concert. He put all the other greats at that show to shame.

Stop looking at incel playlists. Those morons are better off being shunned completely.

I've literally never heard of the term "virgin music," but it sounds completely dumb.
You don't need approval from haters to like the music you like. If you like Weezer, be proud of it. They're a great band and I've seen them perform a few times in person. Their music is fun, they have a distinct sound, and they have great replay value.

Be warned, it's nothing like Misseducation and is not considered good.
Also, doing some extra digging Pearl Jam played State of Love and Trust on their unplugged performance a few months before the studio version was released as a single for a movie soundtrack

I love all the early stuff, still listen to some of it, that was before Bono decided he was the Savior of the World and got all "preachy" and they decided that every new album they had to reinvent their sound. Change for change sake is not always the best policy.
