The Pixies? Are you kidding me? They aren’t grunge and never were. They’re more a pop and alt rock band than anything. Nirvana and The Pixies aren’t in the same place

Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke. It came out just after Breezeblocks by Alt-J and a friend and I argued over which artist/song would blow up the biggest.

I went with Blurred Lines which ultimately stayed atop that charts for 12 weeks in 2013. (Breezeblocks never topped the pop charts but was top ten on several Indie charts).

We're still friends. We were just having fun talking about music. I don't even particularly go for pop in general but that opening hook gets me every time.

This is so cool. I’ve met him quite a few times. A relative of mine was an expert in the history of photography and antique photographs. Brian is really into that, specially stereophotography , so he is friends with a lot of people in that field, comes to their parties, loves to geek out about that stuff. He’s a totally normal friendly guy, not a big head rockstar at all.

Does it have to be recent?

Bettie Serveert - Palomine from 1992 is my all time favourite album from The Netherlands.

It's jangly indie rock/pop with female vocals (without a hint of potato-english) and Neil Young-ish lead guitars. It's perfect in its imperfectness.
