Different strokes, I won't try to prove I'm right or anything, I'd just say that I think knowing music does change the sound going into your ears, at least the way your brain processes what you're hearing. Worth it to anyone who sees music as a big part of their life imo

I can see where you're going with that. I can't say I disagree. I guess my point is that if people aren't happy with what they're hearing in popular music it's their job to break out of that and find artists they click with. I'm just tired of people putting down an entire generation of fantastic music because it isn't the Beatles or Led Zeppelin or whatever.

hm this is a super ignorant and embarrassing post for op. Should have just said you don’t understand jazz patterns. While there is a lot of improvisation and movement, it is all formed around specific jazz chord progressions and the “chaotic” parts you refer to usually resolves with chord changes. Would highly recommend listening to John Coltrane, Errol Garner, etc. I think those in particular play their instruments very well and extremely soulfully.

As I read these comments I think my surprise was really just that.

I was a teen when she was at her peak of celebrity and just assumed she was so famous because she had that “star quality” meaning she was a natural born performer with a brilliantly jazzy voice.

Now that I’ve explored more of her life and work this past year I was very much not expecting her to be such a normal person who just wanted to make and sing songs for herself.
