If you don't need the songs to be EXACTLY about abusive parents...Korn's first album should give you several songs that would allow you to work through things.

They had good songs after but Fever definitely was their best album in my opinion.

Yes, I agree that their self titled is also just an amazing piece of work. Those two albums are their finest work as far as I'm concerned. I honestly thought they could take over the world.
I know the self titled had a LOT of money put into it by their record label. I know Feldman produced it, and I remember Skye saying that they had (I forgot the groups name) one of the old-school famous R&B groups singing on one of the songs as well. Or at least a member or two.
And Church had Justin Hawkins of The Darkness producing, and I absolutely love his work. He met Eric when they'd both been hired to write songs for Meatloaf (have you heard the Justin/Eric demos from that?), and Justin immediately chose Eric as his writing partner when they were asked to group up.
When I saw them open for The Darkness the week after Church came out, I was awestruck. They put on a live show that was just bonkers. Truly a great period in their career.

Interpols Turn on the Bright Lights. That album was made right before 9/11 but came out after and defined so much after it. It was also the album that got me into the music I enjoy today genre wise!

I've been a fan of Daft Punk since 2001 so I'm used to seeing arbitrary definitions of "good" and "bad" sampling from people... Also you say that hip hop "at least adds some layers", well yeah, exactly like Daft Punk. And be honest, 90% of boombap hip hop is actually "just a loop", very rare to hear more at least until J Dilla, The Neptunes and others who started adding way more layers, live playing etc.
About Discovery, let's see what is so basic...
Harder Better Faster Stronger: there is a sample, however the rhythm changes and the talkbox are great and completely transform the original mood, ending of course with the great talkbox solo at the end, which is among my favorite things they have done.
Digital Love, well you can't ignore the amount of things they add: the beautiful bridge played on a vintage Wurlitzer keyboard, the vocals, the atmospheric synths and a superb synth solo at the end. Again, they take a small loop and create a completely new mood with many layers and parts added.
Crescendolls, more basic but they still add so much intensity with the production, the little pauses etc. Clearly an example of taking a small loop and doing a lot with it.
Face To Face, coproduced by Todd Edwards, who also sings on it, is a great example of using tens of micro samples to create something completely new.
I only agree for Robot Rock, it is the easiest sampling they have done and anyway the main thing is that the loop is not that good to me, I never listen to it except in the context of Alive 2007. I actually think most of the 3rd album was made while thinking about the future live show, and not with the goal of having polished standalone tracks. It's well known that they did it in a few weeks and didn't give any interviews at the time.

Meatloaf - Objects in the Rearview Mirror. The second verse is about abusive father.

It is metal, but I can give you a whole album. It's called Matriphagy, a character named Kungan who is trying to escape his industrial building type home and his mother.
I love this band a lot. This album came across me at a time when I needed it most, as I had an unfortunate fallout with someone very close to me, and I had and still somewhat have a complicated relationship with my parents. I hope that maybe this album can help you too.
I wish you the best.❤

I'll add that their S/T album (before that one) is an absolute BANGER and a favorite of mine.
Almost every mix I make has "Killin' It" included, but Bye Bye Symphony and Oh Lord still completely knock me over. A killer live band, too

exactly, PATD "died" ages ago and Urie's been soiling their name with his crappy solo albums that are PATD in-name only for way too long, bout time this happened.
