When I was a kid, Jewel had a song called "Amen" and the end of the third verse (no bridge) is "Some are being beaten, some are being born, and some can't tell the difference anymore." It reminded me of how it felt being in high school where everyone enjoyed picking on me or complaining about me -- as I became more angsty, even non-bullies found me annoying and I just couldn't bring myself to be the well-liked person I was my entire youth. So I thought I was the only one who people couldn't stand and suddenly I felt like it was a universal feeling and not exclusive to me.

A dragon lives forever, but not so little boys Painted wings and giant's rings make way for other toys One gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more And Puff, that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane Without his lifelong friend, Puff could not be brave So Puff, that mighty dragon, sadly slipped into his cave

  • feels like a lot of sadness. Growing up, losing the imagination and wonder of being a kid.

"Using Again" and "I will rise" byBenjamin Todd Recovering addict. Listened to "using again" on repeat at my worst. Heard "I Will Rise" in Rehab, gave me hope.

"Now I'm king of the hounds, I wear shame like a crown. And they're taking bets all over town, on how I'll die. Oh but I will rise. "

Nightwish - The crow, the owl and the dove

A crow flew to me

Kept its distance

Such a proud creation

I saw its soul, envied its pride

But needed nothing it had

An owl came to me

Old and wise

Pierced right through my youth

I learned its ways, envied its sense

But needed nothing it had

Don’t give me love

Don’t give me faith

Wisdom nor pride

Give innocence instead

Don’t give me love

I’ve had my share

Beauty nor rest

Give me truth instead

A dove came to me

Had no fear

It rested on my arm

I touched its calm, envied its love

But needed nothing it had

A swan of white she came to me

The lake mirrored her beauty sweet

I kissed her neck, adored her grace

But needed nothing she could give
