"Spent my days with a woman unkind. Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine.

Made up my mind to make a new start. Going to California with an aching in my heart.

Someone told me there's a girl out there with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.

I took my chances on a big jet plain. Don't ever let them tell you that they're all the same.

The sea was red and the sky was grey. I'm wondering how tomorrow could ever follow today.

The mountains and the canyons start to tremble and shake. The children of the sun began to awake.

To find a queen without a king, they say she plays guitar, and cries, and sings.

Ride a white mare on the footsteps of dawn. Trying to find a woman who's never, never, never been born.

Standing on the hill of my mountain of dreams, telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems."

I have all the lyrics like this tattooed (there's more to come)

"Jesus won't you fucking whistle" - Sober by Tool I had struggled with opioids I was detoxing in my friends basement blaring music so he didn't have to hear me vomiting and crying when this song came on due to YouTube autoplay and it become the beacon of my sobriety it took me until 2021 to actually be able to listen to this song again without shaking and feeling the bugs under my skin again.

" I Don't Love You Like I Did Yesterday" - I Don't Love You by My Chemical Romance Through my sobriety I came to realize I really didn't love the old me that version of me was like an Ex that just wouldn't leave you alone this song really helped me cope with those thoughts and letting go of that part of me

"Come On Up To The House" - Come On Up To The House by Tom Waits I originally wanted the lyrics "Come Down Off The Cross We Can Use The Wood" from the song meaning don't sacrifice yourself for others we can use the materials for better things but the artist didn't get that part but it was such a beautiful design I was happy with the end product this song came at a time in my life where I was holding onto everything and it was weighing me down in every way and this song just helped me to accept that I can't let things weigh me down that it'll all be useless in the end so why not let go and come have some fun

Have you checked out his solo stuff too or the couple songs he did with Axiom Funk?

Assuming you haven't and for any others reading this.. his album Games Dames and Guitar Thangs is *chefs kiss *. Turned the originally psychedelic I Want You (She's so Heavy) into a funky bop, what more could you ask for?!

From Axiom Funk, their song Pray My Soul kinda reminds me of parts of Maggot Brain a little bit but the song's only half as long lol

It's a legendary song. Not too much to add other than what you said.

If you want to check out an interesting cover, listen to the last song on Mike Watt's 1995 album "Ballhog or Tugboat", which features J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr doing the guitar solo and Bernie Worrell (from Funkadelic) on the keys...and Watt on bass. It's a real dirty version. Check out that whole album though if you want an amazing combination of 90's musicians all in one place (Frank Black, Eddie Vedder, Evan Dando, Mark Lanegan, Mike D, and a lot more), but that Maggot Brain is a cool version.
