I think that both of the ideas you listed are true for most of us. I’d also add to your list: We listen to music because it expresses how we used to feel. (The nostalgia aspect of music can’t be overstated.) Additionally, I would say that I listen to music because - 1. it’s the most pleasurable way to escape the annoying aspects of life, and 2. it connects me to the rest of the world in ways that nothing else can.

Thanks, I think I understand what you mean. Are there certain types of music that help or is it just whatever you are currently enjoying listening to?

That's interesting way to put it. What sort of music would do that, for you?

I can totally agree to both of your opinions. I also see it somehow as possibility of emotional control (I struggle with emotion instability...)

Is it music that makes you feel joy, or the act of listening to it? Or to put it another way, do you choose music that makes you feel good or does it just feel good to listen to music, whatever it is that you're liking at the time?

To escape and be taken to another world of just another place in general.

Mental escape, and it's one of the few things that brings me joy.

Sound is good. I like noise, too. Do you like certain types of noise?

So do you listen to things that are expressing your own mind as sort of catharsis, or things that sort of make you feel better or avoid/change what your thinking?

It’s a journey into “feel” land for sure. I sometimes discover how I feel thx to new (to me) music.

It's decent but very well recognized for what it is with little need for a rant.
I'm a fan of the solo on Further Than We've Gone by Beefheart, whilst Beefheart gets recognition for being a genius that album doesn't get much attention....honestly don't even know who plays the solo, zoot?, but it doesn't really matter, Beefheart seems to play the guitar via other people.
Also, Sonny Sharrock is a fucking god on the axe, been blasting Ask The Ages & Black Woman for the past few days and I think I've got a new favourite guitarist.

Klaatu. For a while, some were convinced they actually were the Beatles releasing an album under a pseudonym.
Give a listen to Sub Rosa Subway or Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft.
