There are two most common ones. The Gibson style that goes right at the end of the fretboard and the Fender style that is kind of embedded in the fretboard (like yours).

Nuts of the same type are usually a similar enough size to work with. Sandpaper is the main tool for fitting a new nut. a slightly oversized nut can be sanded to size with a bit of patience.

Nuts are so cheap I'd buy two or three in case you mess up. Watch a few YouTube videos for guidance (there are many) like this one by Dan at Stewmac which is a pretty good introduction...

They're pretty much very similar, but search for "[brand name/model] guitar nut" which should get you the right size

I know when I broke my mandolin nut getting the right size was hit and miss...on a totally different topic, does anyone need any mandolin nuts? Various sizes...

For some guitars you can get a particular nut, depends on a brand, otherwise there are more or less standard ones, as well as templates (basically a block), that you service yourself - sand however you like, and cut string pits where they should be.

Have it fixed properly. Either purchase a new one or have someone do it who knows what they are doing. That string will never sit properly ever again

As someone who grew up in the '90's, which actual 90's bands do these remotely sound like?

I would use super glue mixed with some sawdust, works great in a guitar world. But of course new nut is always better.

You should be able to fix it with a spot of CA but honestly I'd just replace the nut. They are really cheap.
