When I was briefly taught upright bass, they told me to use the ring finger to assist the pinky. But maybe that is just for kids?

I know some people prefer "Joy As An Act of Resistance" or "Brutalism" but this is one of my favorite albums ever. It has a lot of great performances, interesting guitar tones, and really tight grooves. Car Crash, MTT 420 RR, Progress, and The Beachland Ballroom are my highlights.

Me too. I still remember hearing it for the first time. I was at a party and I didn’t talk to anyone while it was playing. I sat near the speakers in awe. The next day I bought the album.

My Morning Jacket - Dondante. Live on Storytellers. Song is about a friend of Jim James who suffered from mental illness and committed suicide. He describes that and then performs the song. I’ve seen the song live multiple times and it’s not uncommon to see people in the crowd crying.

Glad you checked it out! I’ve been listening to him in various projects for the last 15 years and his vocals/lyrics are always amazing. It is truly moving to finally hear him be happy/more at peace with himself.

One of my favorite things about this is the fact that thanks to this song existing, we also have The Roof by Mariah Carey (which sampled Shook Ones, Part II), which is one of my favorite songs from her.
