That is a dilemma. I am a keyboardist, so I just have digital sound. Electric guitars need to be cranked up to a certain volume in order to get that traditional distorted sound that makes the electric t guitar so warm and at the same time gritty. Jimi Hendrix did not make history by turning his amp down.Carlos Santana would not get that singing sound if he were to play quietly. Eddie van Halen simply is a different guitarist at a lower volume. This is one situation where I would rather just put an ear plugs, then compromise the quintessential electric guitar sound.

Muse
I'd only heard of them because of that one song in Twilight, so I had zero respect for them. Then a friend convinced me to listen to Origin of Symmetry. Blew me away.

Alien Ant Farm. They have way more good stuff than just that Michael Jackson cover. Faith No More is also a killer band that's mostly known for one hit song.

I’m getting fitted for hearing aids very soon. It was from teaching sopranos recorders to middle school music students that did the damage. Playing in a dozen or more rock bands didn’t help. Playing trumpet and jazz band next to a screech trumpeter didn’t help much either. But it’s the recorder is it did me in.

Not so much a specific artist but more the style found in Metal or other harder forms of rock where they screech/growl/grunt and so and so. Couldn't adjust for years until on a whim I purchased Blackwater Park and Still Life by Opeth (thank goodness) which really hurtled me through the door at light speed and transported my newbie mind to a new realm of possibilities. Never went back after that.

I always went to my local library, borrowed some CDs and copied them over to my PC/iPod. :D
Otherwise all my songs were from my own CDs or bought from iTunes.
Though I didn't have a whole lot, as I was still quite young and spent all my money on the iPod itself.

I know right, I think that lately her appearances alongside Dolly Parton have done alot to tone down her very public persona. You asked about talent and I have recognized that voice as one that has turned my head.

I tend to assume most pop stars do not write their own music without help.

It was actually the other way around. I didn't like System of a Down's debut, but then I saw them live.
