Ive been loving instrumental music since I was a kid. I grew up on lots of post-rock because the instrumentation doesn’t need lyrics to present a mood and narrative. Try listening to bands like Explosions in the Sky, Mono, Sigur Ros, Godspeed you Black Emperor… and in the realm of classical music I love Chopin. His music is like watching someone paint. Tycho is a great band with a more electronic ambient vibe but still very moody and beautiful music.

Literally discovered my favorite band of all time, Young the Giant, from MLB the Show 19 because their song "Tightrope" is on the soundtrack.

You like lyrics. Nothing wrong with that. I dig the sound. Heck often the lyrics are just another part of the sound for me. I don’t listen to the words. Not playing an instrument probably has a lot to do with it. Perhaps try my EDM. Easier to get in a groove to than orchestral music.

You might do well with instrumentals where the guitar (or other lead instrument) is essentially playing a vocal part. Try Eric Johnson’s “cliffs of Dover” and Iron Maiden’s “losfer words.”

I've never had any issues with it and I don't really think you need to play anything or have any music theory knowledge to enjoy it. It's just music.

I completely forgot 22 AA was a trilogy - I believe the other part is “hooks in you.” And yes, same Charlotte.

Interesting. Also interesting how Sam Smith's is *not* age restricted but it's obvious that both sides admit it's sexual

I discovered the flaming lips after hearing their song on the spongebob squarepants movie soundtrack. Silly, but I'm glad i gave their other work a listen after that.

Many of the great songwriters have done their work in teams. Would it somehow make her songwriting more legitimate if she had done it without help?

Also 'Charlotte the Harlot'. Probably the same Charlotte as in 22 Acacia Avenue.

While I'm thinking about the master of Jazz Kenny G, his version of Luis Armstrong's Wonderful World is no doubt a shout-out to Louis Armstrong.
