Around 2008, I saw Sonic Youth play all of "Daydream Nation" at the McCarron Park pool in Brooklyn. I think that it was the anniversary of its initial release. Good fun, and The Slits opened up. I had never seen The Slits before, so a good night overall.

Not the original artists, but there is a group called Sargent Peppercorn's Lonely Hearts Club Band that comes together once a year in Columbus, Ohio and plays every Beatles album in a 13-hour marathon, usually along with a solo album from one of the Beatles members and a few tracks by the others.

They have the blessing of Paul and Ringo, both of whom have recorded introductions for the show.

I have tickets to see They Might Be Giants doing Flood plus a second set of greatest hits.

I caught Peter Murphy and David J touring for the anniversary of In the Flat Field. They did every song except Crowds, which Peter Murphy had not played live since the album was released. They had an opening act chosen specifically to play that song. Eventually later in the tour he would come out and sing it.

I'm like that, and it might not be a majority way to listen, but it's not uncommon at all either.

Importantly, I think you get A LOT out of your music/artist that way.
(Disclaimer: Different strokes for different folks and all that. . . )

I have several friends who buy/download entire discographies (sometimes even of swaths of a genre), and they simply don't get around to listening to a lot of it, they often miss out on actually appreciating an *album*, and they simply don't get as "into" a band as listener's like you and I. Which is fine, but it truly is experiencing and imo appreciating the music less.
With all my favorite bands, I know virtually every song on every album. And I do like LOTS of bands, so I really don't feel limited at all. But the best part is the love, appreciating, and connection you make with a band (or person) that you truly know. In many ways I feel like it's similar to having 100 friends versus having 5 really good, close friends. I think we all know which type of person truly knows and appreciates their friends more. . .

I’ve heard Springsteen play Born in the USA and Pearl Jam play 10 both nose to toes as I like to call it. It’s always an exciting moment when you realize this is what the artists is doing.

Going into the Springsteen show I was aware an album would be played but not which one and the PJ playing of Ten was a total surprise.
