Just for a laugh I'll mention, one of the loudest bands I've ever seen live is Extreme, a few years ago (at an oyster festival in CT, no less). Their stage volume was ridiculous for a band whose songs don't really call for it.

I mean, I've seen the Melvins multiple times, a band meant to be experienced loud, and they were, but still not on par with this band. It was ridiculous!

I See a Darkness" by Bonnie "Prince" Billy - This album was recorded during a time when Will Oldham (the artist behind Bonnie "Prince" Billy) was struggling with depression and contemplating suicide. The lyrics of the songs reflect these dark themes, and the album has been praised for its raw honesty and emotional depth.

Not a fan of the song. Never was. When it came out, there were a load of twats that latched onto the song in the hope that it would make them appear like they were some sort of cool angst ridden outsiders, when they were in fact just...twats who were trying to get laid.

That turned me right off Radiohead at the time. I'm a huge fan of them now, but Creep made me cringe.

Fleetwood Macs' "Rumours".

As far as I know, there were several broken (or breaking?) relationships in the band around that time, and that turmoil went into a few of the songs. Like "Go your own way", written by Lindsey Buckingham over his broken relationship with Stevie Nicks. Or "Don't stop" written by Christine McVie, concerning her separation from her former husband John McVie. At least that is how I remember it.
