The fact you asked the question kind of answers the question. They are a blend of jazz, rock and blues etc. but ultimately Steely Dan had there own blend of sounds and were Steely Dan. I still love Can’t Buy A Thrill top songwriting by top musicians.

I don't have a problem with her as a person and I acknowlege her talent, but her music just doesn't resonate with me. Maybe I should give her music another try, but for now I haven't found a song that really captured my attention.

I saw Michael Gira, amplified acoustic and solo about 12 years ago, in a small college auditorium, and he nearly blew the roof off. That entire band don't know how to do quiet. Jarboe much the same on one of her tours, completely cavernous noise.

Supported Sunn0)) and KK Null in Brisbane a decade or so ago, can confirm they are two of the loudest bands I've ever heard live. See also: Mogwai, Conan, 90's era Silverchair. Decibels at ear crushing levels.
