The fact you asked the question kind of answers the question. They are a blend of jazz, rock and blues etc. but ultimately Steely Dan had there own blend of sounds and were Steely Dan. I still love Can’t Buy A Thrill top songwriting by top musicians.

I'm actually quite gutted now. I guess we'll have to make do with the biggles soundtrack...

Take some acid, lol. I was fortunate enough to see him, and I'm pretty sure I was the only one not tripping. It was like a grateful dead show. It was a killer show, but it would have been nice to be on everyone else's level

I don't have a problem with her as a person and I acknowlege her talent, but her music just doesn't resonate with me. Maybe I should give her music another try, but for now I haven't found a song that really captured my attention.

yes! still listening to both of them on a regular basis since they came out. Jack White already was among my favourite artists but then he dropped 2 perfect albums in one year like its nothing. Love both of them

I saw Michael Gira, amplified acoustic and solo about 12 years ago, in a small college auditorium, and he nearly blew the roof off. That entire band don't know how to do quiet. Jarboe much the same on one of her tours, completely cavernous noise.

Go listen to Relationship of command by At the Drive-in.
I think you will dig it :-)

Supported Sunn0)) and KK Null in Brisbane a decade or so ago, can confirm they are two of the loudest bands I've ever heard live. See also: Mogwai, Conan, 90's era Silverchair. Decibels at ear crushing levels.

Steely Dan named themselves after a vibrating dildo advertisement they saw in the back of a dirty magazine.
