My grandpa being the decorated in 1942 for saving what was left of the cruiser Trento’s crew the, sunk during the allied operation Harpoon. He was a machinist engineer. Finding every excuse for skipping war is just as brave and a lot more moral than dressing up in a costume and killing foreigners for the rich.
It sounds like you had all kinds of bravery in your family.
