Impressive and a great photo. My father was a Wildcat and later a Hellcat pilot during the war. I wish I had a good quality color photo of him like this. All I have are a few black & whites. Thanks for posting!

It's horrible though he looks on top of the world. He stuck it to the man and was an inspiration to countless young men and women. Clearly proving to himself and others that he wasn't just good enough but one of the best.
I can't Imagine the strength it took mentally and physically but he persevered through it all and went down in history.

Came to say this, absolutely shameful that he was shunned like that when he returned. If he was white, he would have been showered with accolades and treated as royalty by the powers that be.
