There are some good ones featured in this pic. When I was a kid in the 80s and early 90s I would always rent a couple cartoons and would then head straight to the horror section. He-Man : ✔️, Care Bears: ✔️, Slumber Party Massacre: ✔️. All set!

As referee Gordie Lafleur looks on. In the crowd were local dignitaries Gordie Reynolds, Gordie Candy, and Gordie Pearte.

That’s not Madonna, I just seen her on an awards show and doesn’t resemble the woman posted.

There’s something about the picture that looks fake, and I can’t put my finger on it.

Ehhh. That’s really pushing the definition of a selfie I think. I think a selfie is something that can only be done with a portable camera digital camera or smartphone that the subject is holding. Otherwise, it’s just a well timed self portrait. When someone says “selfie”, what usually comes to mind is a picture of yourself in which the camera is obviously at the end of an extended arm or pair of arms.

This is definitely the most modern looking one I’ve seen thats from before the 21st century (if you told me this was taken yesterday, I’d 100% believe you), and it’s actually a selfie as opposed to just a self portrait.

It's hard to pin down exactly for me because horn design has changed so much since this photo was taken. The smaller horns on the far left and right either wouldnt be found at all in most modern ensembles or they would be configured differently, and I have never seen a tuba wrapped that way.

Left to right- flugelhorn?/mellophone?, tuba, unkown, euphonium, trumpet
Edit: that's a big ass trumpet too, it might be like a weird tenor horn or something.

Reply to Can anybody put any context to this photo? My mom sent this to me of my great grandfather who was a Marine but that’s about all she knew. 1930’s? by SgtSoggySock
Royal or Canadian Marines? By their age and dress my guess is that this a brigade or battalion officer’s group photo and most of these men are lieutenants or captains with the two booted in the front row center being majors, although there does appear to be a few Sargent in the front row as well.

Maybe he just wanted to take it himself? It’s just striking to me that he’s taking it the same way that people take selfies now.

I wonder why he didn't ask one of the ladies with him to take his picture? I don't know what's going on with them, but it looks like there are two of them with him?

The VHS boxes for the horror movies in the 80s and 90s were the best. As a kid, some were horrifying, but you were always curious to look at the back of the cover. And, I have to say, some of the covers were better than the movies themselves.
