School taxes are part of property tax. OP is referring to local income tax.

Basically the answer is no at according to these comments, at least not as truly stand alone state holidays. Fastnacht is still Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, a different celebration but for the same reason and on the same day. Groundhog Day is celebrated in elementary schools nationwide and a whole blockbuster movie exists based on it. First day of hunting season is, as mentioned, a day off school in many other rural locations. Flag Day is a federal holiday, as are all the holidays listed on the state website as state holidays.

I am always amazed at how many people claim to love Freedom, but then want to control and restrict others.
Crossroads my ass.. Americans will always fight for freedom be it against Germans, Japanese, Communists, terrorists, or anti-abortion rights freaks.

Went to Centralia back when it was “open.” That had a creepy vibe to it.
Also tried to find the 7 gates to hell but gave up after a few hours.

Because you pay a percentage of your income in taxes at federal, state, and local levels. Municipal / school taxes are the local level.

Wanted to go out on their own terms I guess. It’s sad but at least they were able to do that

Early 1970s I think 1973. I had just gotten a pair of new binoculars for my 13th birthday. I called my friend up and we went up the hill in my neighborhood (Plymouth Meeting) where they were building new homes there. From that vantage point one could view all of Plymouth Township and further south. It was a clear day and hardly any clouds in the sky, so perfect to view around the area and sometimes a small plane heading into or from Wings Field, an airport nearby. Then I saw something heading towards us about a mile away and a few hundred feet up. I realized it wasn't a plane, wasn't moving and wasn't making any sound either. The object was I say about 30 feet in diameter, a chrome silver disc, no windows. This object just hovered there in the air for five minutes. My friend saw it too. After that period of time it started slowly ascending and then in seconds silently shot upwards and vanished. Of course nobody believed us, nothing in the news of course, but whenever we get in contact over the years, my friend and I always reassure ourselves that we indeed saw an unidentified flying object.

Oh man. This isn’t something that I experienced personally but I went deep down the rabbit hole of the creepy conspiracy notes that kept getting put in random grocery food boxes a couple of years ago. I’ll see if I can find a link to one of the local blog stories on it.
Edit: found it

There has to be more to this. What was so bad that none of these 3 could pull themselves out of this funk long enough to seek help for themselves and the other 2?

Not sure anyone can ever really understand something like this. It is heartbreaking and my condolences to family and friends. This one sentence stood out to me, "Both parents were ordained ministers". To me it just seems to add to the sadness and thought of how absolute dire this family's situation had to have become.

Can't see behind pay wall even with archiving sites. Our governor is pro choice but the state house and senate have Republican majority. While I believe Shapiro will veto any nonsense from them that limits or bans abortions, we should not let the state legislation slip our mind. Especially if they try amendment shenanigans.

Daughter had severe mental issues and the parents likely had something as well.
Suicide will never make sense to me as an agnostic, as such I don't know if I'll ever be able to truly empathize with the mindset. I don't understand it and can't pretend to. As a result I doubt you or I will ever get a proper explanation of why outside of those letters going public.
