Our gas bill dropped by almost half when we got a new furnace in 2008. It’s 92% efficient. That’s probably your cheapest choice. We also had shitty windows until last year. The bill has gone down since the windows too but not as much as the furnace.

That's crazy. We have a similar setup, but it's just a ranch and we don't use space heaters. Ours was 240 bucks. I'm really trying to be conscious of my usage now, but still at 8 bucks a day for electric.

Attic insulation will help tremendously as well as air sealing the attic. Fwiw, even old gas furnaces maintain about 80% efficiency, so unless you go to a condensing gas furnace you won't see much improvement on the electric bill. If I were to upgrade it would definitely be to a high efficiency unit.

A bundle delivery service would be cool. I don't want a ton of termite infested wood laying around. A fire is nice to have but I don't want to lug dirty wood around in my pristine white eldorado.

I buy bundles of wood from a guy around the corner. He buys cords and bundles them w string. Honor system drop money in the box. $25 for 3. Not sure either of us want to pay you for an app bc it's not that much anyway. Apps have meant the wood seller gets less, I pay more, some guy in the middle w an app gets rich.

That is likely the issue then. Calling them is a waste of time, find out who your State Rep is and call their office they can actually help. I know several people who have gotten helped that way.

Solar and batteries are also a great solution, but most of this is moot, as most people rent now.

Wood stoves are definitely nice to have for backup. I think a heat pump with a wood stove for supplemental/backup heat would be perfect. It's just not ideal for everyone. Many people just want to flip a switch. Not to mention the wood itself. Finding and splitting your own wood makes it worth it, but its too physically demanding for many people. With the price of cord wood, it just doesn't seem like it would save you much money over alternatives.

My last Met-Ed bill for December was $124.16 for a 1200 sq ft, 3-bedroom home, with oil heat and electric hot water heater. One of the bedrooms is an attic bedroom not connected to the main heating system (space heater).

Why is PPL doing estimated bills? I have Met-Ed, and they installed new meters which record actual usage. No one reads our meters anymore, and we do not get estimated bills. Since the new meters were installed, our bills are much lower.

I'm probably just a bit sentimental about wood. Plus, it's a backup for when power is out.
