I lived in Philly for a few years and loved it. The sub is really odd place, it's one of the few places where the sub just doesn't match the actual area....

Yes, a lot of people over on the sub are upset over one thing or another, but it's really not as bad as they make it out to be. If you're really that scared about moving to Philly, might I highly recommend visiting for a weekend or week.

There's plenty of places where it's recommended to avoid, but there's also really nice areas. IMO, even in the more rough areas, as long as you aren't like an asshole to everyone, you should be fine.

How's it dead end if it maxed my IRA and 401k contributions every year while still allowing money to toy with in the market...?

It's free housing and massive money to break you out of your hometown. You don't have to do it for life, but you open a lot of doors, meet a lot of people and are granted a free ticket out of a shit town so you can breathe and figure out if you want to learn coding or how to fly an airplane.

I chose airplanes. Wanna know what it feels like the first time you pull the yoke and leave a runway? Sounds pretty cool doesn't it?

You can do it.

Totally agree. I left another state filled with those guys and feel 100% safer in my Near Northeast neighborhood than I ever did there, and I'm a middle aged white guy myself. I've managed to block most of the worst offenders, and other than the Mandatory 4k guy, whom I don't mind, the crime talk is pretty minimal. Moving to this city is the best thing my wife and I have ever done, other than marrying each other.

I'm quite literally speaking from experience. Working seasonal jobs that offered housing broke me out of my hometown and has allowed me to travel the world while still maxing my IRA and over-investing for retirement.

Still don't make enough money to actually afford a child a child though, and I do pretty damn well these days.

It's a shame that all of the unintelligent and underprepared people are the ones that keep popping out children and bitching about socioeconomic hardship when they came into parenting without a plan in the first place. Most parents can't even contribute to a 529 for fucks sake.

Buncha dumb people we have walking around this planet.

... Are you one of those people, by chance?

You sound like you're surrounded by Fox News watching Trump supporters.

There is little reality to a lot of what you fear. Is there crime? Yes. You will likely never encounter it. Is some parts dirty? Yes. Places with a high density of people can get dirty. There's other parts that are beautiful. As far as taxes, you need to pay to play my friend. If you don't want to pay a lot in taxes go live in the sticks.
