Thank you for uploading this. Carbon County is one of those counties in northeast PA that hides in plain sight. It's the lower Poconos. Some (very) rich people know that if you want the real Poconos these days, you either go far northwest or far southeast. tnonline.com is its only news outlet, and it's excellent. which is sad, because much more that is newsworthy happens in this county than one might suspect. tnonline.com never gets the credit or funding it deserves. Those American Recovery funds should go to it.

A much larger county's media confided in me they rely on pure chance to cover what happens in the courthouse in Jim Thorpe. This credentialed reporter confided County leaders know that trips by media from out of the area are arduous, time-consuming, and--in Jim Thorpe.

I made this comment however for another reason. A friend is experiencing a very similar problem regarding the federal government overlooking enforced religion. (FWIW, I'm a practicing Christian.) Religious icons of a very distinct religion are allowed to be hung on the walls and placed virtually all over a government--HUD--subsidized building, and management has been made aware of it. The building is funded by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, which apparently is a-okay with the silent preaching.

The religious icons are only getting more numerous. (Hint: the believers aren't Jews or Muslims.)

This take is really shockingly ignorant

“Demanding they go to a service of a specific religion is bullshit and abusive” - you can disagree with the approach but words matter, equating a relig. service requirement to abuse is absurd. The majority of people would not agree with that characterization.

“People who aren’t christians are SOL” - No, they will still be offered services discrimination free but are still subject to this private organizations mass requirement if they want to participate. If they are Muslim or another religion they can find Muslim orgs or mosques to render them aid, I imagine many do. If you give aid you are allowed to attach conditions to it.

Groupthink is strong here. You're absolutely correct! Even the manufacturers publicly mentioned early on that the vaccines weren't tested for whether they were sterilizing (preventing spread) and that their main purpose was reducing severity of symptoms.

So, it's no surprise many still caught it. Some debate whether the vaccines reduced symptoms, but that's another discussion. For those in high-risk groups (ie. over the age of 60-70), the general medical consensus is it's worthwhile getting the shots regardless.

The bigger question is whether young people, especially males, should get the shots. Many differing positions on that with some health agencies taking a more nuanced approach. One can search the web for more details.

Again, as you observe, none of the vaccines were intended to stop spread. Many news sources and politicians, including the CDC (lost a lot of credibility), oversold what the vaccines were tested and intended for. Reducing severity of symptoms. That's it.

Rates went up January-9th and appears to be retroactive. If you had paid before then, it would be $30.50 as expected. One would think the rate quoted would be what's due, but PA is desperate for revenue. Very shady!

Chalk it up as a learning experience to pay government related bills promptly. Not something I'd given much thought too either. My DL expires in December of next year and is something I will be keeping an eye on. May be worth upgrading to Real ID this year, which may extend another 2-4 years or just renewing early (think one can do so up to around 6 months ahead).
