Vinyl chloride in the atmosphere breaks down into hydrochloric acid, a component of acid rain. East Palestine residents may want to wipe down surfaces in homes for possible residual material, Crist added.

Completely anecdotal but in Lycoming county the rain today smells vaguely of burnt plastic. Noticed it immediately when I let the dogs out this AM.

The only thing funnier than the number of Russian bots spreading FUD about the derailement is the number of suckers who are just going along with the conspiracy theory without questioning how absurd it all sounds.

There's a video of it on fire in Salem, 20miles before the crash. There also seems to be a call made about the hot box, and an investigation is underway. If you're genuinely interested, you should google, there are a handful of media outlets covering this part of the story. I think I saw the hot box footage on a CBS report.
