Middle Paxton Township has what you are looking for w/ the public schools busing you to Holy Name / Bishop McDevit.
15-30 mins from every major retail store w/ Blue Mountain in between. Appalachian Trail in your backyard, surrounded my PA Gamelands.
2 hours from Philly, 3 from New York.
I can’t recommend it enough, it’s where I grew up, and where I live now after 20 years in the Philly area.

I'm reading that first one as a meat-centric statement. And this time of year most herds wouldn't be pasture fed, it would be silage and other stored grains that could be an issue, those tend not to be exposed to sunlight or rain - so being undercover 'may' protect them from contamination in the first place, if silage in a silo that is in good repair it would probably have had minimum contact with contamination, but if not that could be another issue.
The short half life does relieve some worry and over all I would think that the largest concentrations would end up in the lungs and livers of the animals but without much research being done on what chemicals cross the 4 stomachs and get into the cow's milk supply I would hope that enterprising grad students make this a priority area of research.

The death penalty is a massive waste of taxpayer funds, and one could argue life in prison is actually a worse sentence. No reason to keep it around

I go to them for pretty much everything related to my garden or animals. They're fantastic. They don't push bullshit or old wives tales.

Based on what that fact sheet says about:
-
How it doesn't stay in the food chain(so it doesn't keep in the animals system)
-
how fast it evaporates in the environment making it unlikely an animal would ingest any
-
how short it's half life is, meaning even if it does ingest some it degrades very quickly
I would assume the amount that could make it into a milk supply would be negligible.

wow I hadn't heard anything about that ruling. That's going to be interesting if it isn't struck down somewhere else.
Bradford counties schools in the south western area is a great example of not being county based. Some of the schools have children from 3 different counties going to the schools.

It is my understanding (and I left the farm over a decade ago so it may no longer be accurate) that dairy farms picked a processor who would come around with a tanker truck 2x or 3x a week, depending on production, and take that milk to a REGIONAL processing/bottling plant. It's that regional part that concerns me. Without knowing how far or for how long any contamination may linger - AND knowing the industry's reputation for putting profits far above worrying about people, I am concerned.
I don't know if pasteurizing would concentrate or eliminate these contaminations. I believe (airborne) the EPA accepts 1ppm per day as not harmful, but we're seeing 60+ppm in the area right now. What happens to any animals that aren't outright killed by the chemicals? Are we tracking to see where these herds get sent? What if they are transported/sold to farmers in Virginia or to farms on the far side of the Appalachians, or to upstate NY? How are we tracking every cow? ARE we tracking any cows?
What happens to school children who received minor exposure from the derailment, but then end up also consuming low-level contaminated dairy or grain products? We may not even have the data to answer these questions, but what I do know is that I don't trust Nestle, Aurora or any of the other processors to police themselves.

They are looking at Bradford county, they obviously don't care about their kids getting raped.
*semi joke - they likely don't know about how the schools regularly cover up sexual abuse in the community, or in the schools themselves.

And the Ag Extension is also a very reputable source, since so many people are [rightfully] distrustful of the govt

> The proximity to NYC keeps housing values elevated up there.
Tioga and Bradford are 4+ hours from NYC. It's 4+ hours from any major city I think.
It's rich city people moving out of the cities in their retirements that drove prices up like crazy after they had been driven up by the natural gas industry.

housing is insane right now in that area. It's starting to level off some but house prices were going up to over $300k and selling instantly. Lots of city people moving into the area selling their $1m houses and having a ton of cash left over.

Ward manufacturing, something in wellsboro, natural gas industry or related, commute an hour, university. I would say those are the most likely job locations.

We are looking at NY and VT as well. PA just seemed reasonably affordable and not so much govt oversight like NY. i do see tons of great schools according to niche, in the souther ny state line that borders PA, nice mountains still. the Adirondracs are gorgeous, i dont see quite as many home prospects for sale there. West VT is also on the menu.

Are there any Catholic elementary schools in Tioga? There is a couple in Bradford (or one? not sure) but wasn't sure if there was any over there.

Had family move to Bradford in the 70s and the stories I hear from back then compared to today are insane. One family member had someone pull a gun on them telling them they were trespassing on their own property. 'I've never seen you before, so you either leave or get shot' kind of stuff. They didn't even get arrested when the cops showed up, it was 'oh thats <soandso> and he's a bit protective of his hunting spots. I'll tell him to cool it'. It's a lot better now, but compared to most areas still stuck in the past.

Who’s milk supply? I’m actually curious about this comment. Do you mean the local farms in Western PA

Reply to Interning in Carlisle, anything I should know before accepting my offer? by ilikefrenchhorns
I’m from Carlisle and still live there. Carlisle is a small, safe town with lots of history. I love it there. There’s 8-10 good restaurants in town, and 5-6 decent places to grab a drink for a 21 year old. Dickinson College is a very, very nice liberal Arts College in town and also home to the Penn State School of Law. It will be summer so less students, but some stay for summer classes I think.
Towards Harrisburg there are dozens of great places to eat/drink and meet people in early 20s, just of course must be careful drinking and driving.
The Appalachian Trail runs through Carlisle and there are tons of close, awesome options for hiking and camping close by. If you like to fish, we’re right on the yellow breeches which is a highly rated limestone trout stream.

I've been through this.... in order through it to be legally enforced, it has to go through a court. It should be served through a process server, which is normally a constable in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania or by certified mail. To be honest, once an eviction notice to quit/vacate process starts, it can take 6 months or more to actually be enforced if you or your attorney are versed in the law.
I've successfully brought action against a landlord who tried to evict my family illegally without an attorney because I used free resources available to do my research.
