State Senator Greg Rothman (R-34) and Senator Nikil Saval (D-1) introduced legislation to make Diwali an official state holiday in Pennsylvania. The holiday moves around because it's a lunar calendar, but is typically in October or November. This year it would be November 12.

Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and some Buddhists. It's a Festival of Lights.

Any new state holiday is good in my opinion!

This is pretty well known however we were just notified yesterday that cuts will also affect our local food bank and they will limit the number of clients that can be served at our food pantry, limiting the food the pantry can purchase discounted.

So people are losing money to buy food and the food pantrys will not have enough to cover the loss.

And all those politicians that say 'the charities can take care of the people' are a-holes.

Do you genuinely feel as if your government is doing everything they can to ensure your safety with your best interest in mind in regards to transportation/infrastructure issues, healthcare issues, environmental issues? Our Commonwealth has been very lax as of late with a lot of these things & it’s somehow a “clown take” to say that the Gov of the Commonwealth might have an interst in making sure no spotlight falls on Harrisburg!?

Ah, okay. But still, it's not saying that removing them is dangerous. I think of this the same way that things changed when POC were included in graphics in books and posters. It's an acknowledgement that you are seen.

I don't think the schools can really do much more than that, unless it's an intervention in a situation that endangers a student.

>who almost killed herself multiple times over what I later found out was just a complete and utter lack of representation

When I was 19 I attempted suicide and was found bleeding out in a bath tub. I ended up in-patient for several months. It was a long road to recovery, and there were times I thought and believed "if only X was different this wouldn't have happened" but the reality is, while there were external pressures it was an internal struggle made up of many factors. Suicidal depression is not single faceted, and while you may contribute the lack of Pride Flags in your school classroom, it isn't why you almost killed yourself. That simplifies your situation, I wish you the best on the road of recovery.

Thank you for proving my point. This is an absolute clown take. The only person you're fooling with your fake nonpartisan act is yourself.

Often hazy along the 81 corridor with all the truck traffic and location in a valley. The haze often stretches up past Harrisburg and into Berks County. You can see the brown soot from the viewpoints on South and Kittatinny Mountains on quite a few days.

iirc; something last year (around this same time) happened in the Philadelphia region and it was due to some form of weather effect involving the layering of hot and cold air. We did just have an oddly warm spike amongst freezing weather, so maybe that’s a contributing factor?

As an LGBTQ person who almost killed herself multiple times over what I later found out was just a complete and utter lack of representation and a feeling of safety in places I spent the most of my time as a child (i.e. school), and per countless peer reviewed research studies from prominent institutions - I will have to not only disagree with you but inform you with sources and facts that you or are dangerously wrong about this. Please lower your voice before you get someone killed.
