In Pittsburgh starting salary is $47k and it takes 11 years to hit max salary of $99k. After 35 years you get a 60k pension equivalent to a $1.5 million 401k balance. Sometimes I think it is a conspiracy to keep the starting salary so low for sympathy points.

>You’re in here arguing in favor of “fuck teachers”
🧃 Here's a straw. Grasp harder.
Saying the state should get out of the pension business and agreeing that teachers should be paid more, while simultaneously pointing out that teachers who are underpaid can move to different districts or jobs (just like everyone else can) isn't "fuck teachers."

That's called fraud.

Not interesting at all. Don’t pay the bill, don’t get the service. Sounds like you expect free heat just because it’s cold. Do you also expect free electric for air conditioning in the summer?

You cannot possibly believe that if you force retired troopers to choose between working a second job and fishing or hunting every day while living off their pension they're going to choose the job.

That's their decision then. I used to work in adolescent mental health and loved helping kids, but it didn't pay the bills. You have to look out for yourself, no one else is going to.

So, they just won't work and collect a pension. Why work if you make more money retired than you would working?
I know my local school district has three retired troopers as SROs. They're fantastic with the kids and the school barely pays them because they don't have to, since they have their pensions.

Deaths per KWh makes sense when considering public policy, but it is the wrong measure for one person evaluating the risk of relocating. OP shouldn't care at all how much power the plant produces.

I believe you can report changes through the PA Compass website or app. It's super easy and you just upload a copy/picture of your paycheck, W2, etc there (and maybe your lease if reporting rent change?). I've done it in the past and it was fairly painless. I think afterwards they just sent me something saying "you're still eligible for medicaid" or whatever (with no changes/interruption to my insurance). If he's done the annual renewal online before, it's basically the same thing. If this option isn't accessible to him, or he has more questions, call the county assistance office.
For a single person, you have to make under about 18k/year to be eligible for PA Medicaid. (If making over 18k, you may still be eligible through MAWD or other special programs.)
I'm not very familiar with SNAP, hopefully others can offer help there.

You do not have to reapply county to county, you can ask for and inter-county transfer. The only benefit that would require a new application is LIHeap if you had already received at your prior address but want to utilize crisis funds at the new address.

So weird that the people that stick to themselves and don’t get tested, never test positive for covid. I can’t imagine why!

I mean the government can’t find the workers to replace badly needed and fully funded infrastructure projects so, I guess my angle is, if the government could why haven’t they? And if all the “housing is a human right” people really believe that, why is it easier to fill an office position at 15 an hour than a construction job at 20 an hour?
How many houses have you built in the last year?

Delay paying pensions to people who are working means we pay less each year

LOL, moe to Florida fascist. Or Bama, that's more your speed.
For others reading this moronic screed...nuke plants don't emit smoke, its water vapor, from the heated water. We've lived down wind of Limerick NPP since June 2000, you can see the vapor plume on most clear days. I actually know people that live in a very expensive development right in the shadow of the two towers. I've coached kids in lacrosse in fields located less than 1/4 of a mile away. Lots of farms (corn, wheat, dairy) all around here. Oddly enough there are no 3-eyed fish in our streams or double headed deer roaming around. In fact, the biggest health threat around here was about 15-20 years ago when two separate tubing plants, fortunately both down wind of us, were illegally emitting carcinogens. Turns out, surprise surprise, the owners were both big Republican donors. GWB even made a campaign stop at one of them. There is the tyranny the OP is looking for.
As for the terrorism threat. Nothing is 100% safe but each nuke power plant has its own security force. I was actually recruited by one of them when I was getting out of the Army. And I'll let structural design engineers speak to this but the towers are designed to withstand an impact from a 747.
In regards to safety, there have been 3 major nuclear power plant incidents since 1979...3MI, which was an equipment failure, Chernobyl was caused by human error, and Fukishima was an earthquake. 3MI has no confirmed death or health incidents related to it, Fukishima has had one, and Chernobyl 31. Now consider the cumulative cost of lives from the pollutants emitted from the fossil fuel industry, the cumulative illnesses, the cumulative ecological disasters, and so on.
The OP is grossly misinformed on nuke power, or (could be both) an open vessel for disinformation, or is purposely trying to spread disinformation.
Anyway, move to Florida bud, you're people are there and awaiting you.

He can call and report once he moves. The rent amount will be added as a SNAP deduction, and with that income his Medicaid will be fine. He can apply for LIHeap for heating (even if heat is included he can qualify if the rent isn’t subsidized). He obviously won’t have a 1099 or anything so he can provide an income statement from the person employing him stating he is paid $1200 monthly. I work for DHS and we 100% don’t care if he is paid cash or reports it to the IRS, that’s separate from our office, we just need to know the income to calculate the benefits.

While I agree teachers deserve a lot more money than they get...

If they're only making $29k, they need to find a new school district to work for.

Your response is my point.
You’re making an ad hominem argument that when I ask a question about how homelessness is defined in an article where the targeted outcome seems to be highlighting a “class” difference (vs offer any view of solutions) it means that I DGAF homeless children. It’s an emotional and baseless position that let’s you feel morally superior to anyone you’re talking with. All the while, you’re not actually doing anything tangible that we shouldn’t expect from every one of our neighbors to make things better.
I hate that anyone feels the vulnerability of homelessness. Especially children. Even for one night. Sadly, the condition is real. When we’re distracted by fighting for the moral high ground (that mountaintop, if you will) we’re not only not making it better, we’re dampening any hope of progress.
