I'm looking for a place where I can charge my car once or twice a week that also has a place where I can sit and do some work on my laptop. Preferable in the Providence/Cranston/Warwick area. Any ideas?

Those are always broken.
FYI those are free for 4 hours, $1/hr after that.
Providence place is free charging on most of the parking levels, parking is free first two hours. Warwick mall has one charging location, it's located next to the movie theater.
Park and rides- free level 2 chargers
Level 3 chargers in Warwick and Hopkinton, too.
Both of those are broken and happened to break on the same day actually
Oof, not great. I noticed the Hopkinton one was out of order last weekend on my way back from Mystic. Luckily I had enough to make it back to Providence without too much worry.
Update, one of the hopkinton DCFC fast chargers is working now
Do you have the PlugShare app? I find it really helpful for finding chargers I might not know about otherwise. You can see the location, cost, compatibility, tips from others, etc.
Neon in seekonk? I don't think I've ever seen a person pay there for EV charge
There’s fast chargers at the dealerships across the street from chick fil’ a in Warwick. I’ve charged my car there a few times while I grab a bite. You have to ask the staff first but I have not had issues.
Walk over to Starbucks next to the Market Basket.
But Starbucks is anti poor so they are probably against that too
Chick-fil-A’s CEO came out publicly as anti-LGBTQ+ so I stopped going there.
Relevance, your honor? u/Frisky_Mongoose said the name of the restaurant to describe the location, not to advocate for or against eating there.
Edit: Typo
“while I grab a bite to eat”
Seems implied to me.

My point exactly. I feel bad for anyone who’s offended by what people think. It’s silly and immature. What others think is entirely irrelevant to one’s self. Only the weak minded let ideas spoil their day.
And I didn’t say anything hateful. All I said was if you let what people think bring you down or steer your path then you’re life was be tough. We are all just cosmic dust here for a mere 75ish years give or take and it would be rather silly to spend what little time we have on this conscious journey worried about how OTHERS think about us.

Lincoln mall has free charger by the chilis
Some Rhode Island parks and beaches have them too.
Definitely providence place mall. Also the Biltmore garage has I believe 2 charging spots and there’s a couple places and coffee shops for you to work in
They have a few at the Barrington Public Library that are on the left as you exit the parking lot.
Here’s a list of alternative charging stations around the state.
https://energy.ri.gov/transportation/electric-vehicles/electric-vehicle-charging-stations
ETA A few are charging $1.90-$5.00 an hour but that’s still way cheaper than a full tank of gas.
Not sure about a working on laptop option, but you might check Stop & Shop parking lots as well
The Coventry Stop & Shop has a couple (not sure the Charge level though)
Download the Chargepoint app. Many locations across the state.
Most chargepoint locations were free up until a couple years ago. Now they may give you an hour free, then pay per time spent there. The app will give you more info on each one.
I know the ones connected to Chilis are still free. Use an app called plugshare and it will show you all they are around and if they are free
There's a free chargepoint charger in Portsmouth at that Roger Williams Resident Hall right off the highway. There's 2 stalls, they're usually open.
Pretty far from there though.
East Matunuck State Beach has a free one too. Might as well enjoy a view of Block Island.
Neon station on Kinsley x Dean. There's a Dunkin & iHop up the street, or you could walk a couple blocks over to the Farm Fresh building - they've got a coffee shop, taco shop, brewery, etc all in one building. A decent place to hang out for a few hours.
There is free ev charging there?
My bad, I skipped over the "free" part...I cannot say for sure. Maybe just give them a quick call. I don't have an EV, so I'm not sure how it works - apologies!
Wickford train station has a bunch of free chargers. But the only thing nearby is the Walmart.
In the parking lot near Roger Williams park zoo
Isn’t the park n ride in Warwick across from AAA free? Or did that change?
There’s an EV charger in the parking lot across the courtyard with Riffraff, a small bookstore/bar/coffee shop
You own an EV, have a remote job with flexible hours, a laptop ... and you want free car charging? People like you are why we can't have nice things.
Times are tough all over… this guy can’t afford electricity or internet after buying an electric car.
The new Neon Marketplace on smith hill in Providence is incredible. Little cafe spot with a kitchen and ev charging
Can anyone tell me where I can use my laptop and charge my car with gas?
Hahahahahaha
Most RI EV chargers are free
Nothing is for free!
Why are they free? Electric cars are not non-polluting if the electricity to charge them is being generated by burning fossil fuels.
They're still several times more efficient than gas cars, even if the electricity is 100% fossil fuel. A modern natural gas plant is pretty efficient and very low in pollution other than CO2. And the power grid will continue to improve.
Fast chargers are expensive, they charge about what it would cost to drive a small gas car. But L2 and L1 trickle chargers are just an AC hookup, the only expense is the electricity, and for an hour or two at the library you're talking maybe $1-2.
>But L2 and L1 trickle chargers are just an AC hookup, the only expense is the electricity, and for an hour or two at the library you're talking maybe $1-2.
It's a fair question for someone to ask "ok, why can't the people with EVs pay that $1-2 themselves then?"
I get the idea of incentivizing EVs but isn't this subsidizing people who don't really need that extra hand?
Edit: for a private business. I don't give a shit, obviously. If Applebees thinks they can get a few more people eatin good in the neighborhood with free charging for a couple hours? Jah bless.
Generally the business hosting the charger pays for the electricity. Sometimes the car owner pays, like with most chargepoints.
They're free for the same reason Milk is usually at the back corner of the grocery store; it incentivizes people to come into the property further and Maybe shop a bit more.
Free? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, most charging stations for EV’s are free.
EV charging is not as expensive as grampa wagon juice. Its free in a lot of places.
Hey HEY. Watch it with the grandpa wagon talk. I still love my Outback wagon.
I am lucky to work where my employer offers free charging for EV. I wish that Subaru would make a fully Electric Outback.
You should check out the 2023 Subaru Solterra! It’s electric.
Why is it there is always this type of comment. You assume I haven’t looked at it.
It’s not an Outback.
I was just trying to be nice and share something I thought was cool…
Ok. Got that. But I dunno. This is the thousandth reply with an assumption as opposed to phrasing it better “hey. Have you taken a look at the Solterra? I did and really liked it”.
I find it hilarious that I’m down voted for pointing out that you need to work in your communication. That is a you issue. If you don’t get that and can’t admit that I don’t even know what to say. I didn’t insult you. I didn’t call you names. I just am stating you made an assumption. It’s valid criticism.
The Solterra is a rebadged Toyota BZ4X. They were recalled shortly after they were released because wheels were falling off because of some “new” production method Toyota devised.
I’d hold out for a proper Outback before getting a Solterra.
This is dangerously off topic. But please read the entire thread. I own an Outback. And I wouldn’t get a different Subaru than the Outback. I’m still angry they stopped making the 6cyl (which I have the last model of).
If I get an electric Subaru. It would have to be an Outback as I stated.

Usually not free, dude. You should know this!
r/confidentlyincorrect
Most are free
Most in RI are free.

There are EV chargers in Garden City behind Avvio, with a Starbucks nearby
Edit: I don’t have an electric car so I didn’t know about the problems others have mentioned, sorry!
