New England has generally the lowest violent crime rates (by far) in the USA and RI is one of the five safest states. Providence, Boston, Hartford, etc. are only “dangerous” relative to other places in New England ona per capita basis. They’d be some of the safest areas by far in higher crime states like Louisiana, Texas, Georgia or Florida.

Being an outsider, this really makes me wonder what the situation is with the HUD field offices, state agency, and lenders that is causing these "inefficient silos" mentioned in the article.

I've read that RI's housing situation is especially difficult, in part because there is so little investment on the affordable housing side.

I just put this list on 2 other RI posts, apologies to anyone sick of seeing it.

They're called Caramel DeLites sometimes. Which is what they used to be called anyways before the name Samoas.

I totally agree! Some odd reason I like that flavor on ice cream too.

Transplant, but I've been here off and on since 04. I wouldn't describe the vibe as entitled so much as tribal. In my experience, the northeast in general is less surface level pleasant, but kinder when it matters.

Downtown Westerly is really nice - it's a short strip with a nice downtown feel with Wilcox park running right behind it. There's several restaurants and nice little bars in the area, a few antique and curiosity shops, and a small movie theater. Grey Sail brewery is right around the corner, as well as Cottrell brewery right over the river in Pawcatuck (more or less a 5 minute drive between the two). There's the Malted Barley on main street, it's a decent sized brew pub with a good variety of craft beers and some pretty good pretzels. If it's not too cold out you could go for a walk in Wilcox park to work up an appetite, it's a really nice walk around the park even in the winter and they usually have some sort of festive decorations hanging up.

There's a couple art galleries downtown as well.

Good lord, that clown's position is paid $190,000 a year?? To do what exactly... generate some reports and hire consultants to make recommendations (or the way I'm reading it... spend even more taxpayer money to do their job for them)?
