He’s had the option to buy the land since 2018, I can’t confirm he ever closed the deal, so fair point, maybe he doesn’t actually own it yet but the land has been set aside for him & only him to buy for years.

The last official hurdle at the RI Supreme Court was cleared last year to start construction

At this point, the ball is in his court. Build the building or let someone who is serious about building buy it.

>I think this tower is not the answer to the housing crisis in Providence and I think it’s naive to believe it is

Nobody has ever or will ever claim it is. But there's no solution that can skip past the "build a shit ton of new housing fast" part of the equation.

> We don’t need this, we need our tax dollars to be invested in making more affordable housing, not to support the desire for a private developer to gain more wealth and power.

Would your opinion on this be the same if there were zero tax dollars going towards it? Cause, boy, do I have a fucking newsflash for you

The Jewelry District Association, and the PPS both disagree with your analysis.

Regardless of what you or I think, Providence is in part nicer now - and desired by developers - because of the efforts of the PPS, so if they are vocal about its deleterious effects than we should listen.

First, condolences on your loss.

I’m not a financial advisor or estate planner, but if this is truly a life insurance payout, it does not affect the estate or the executor of the will. A life insurance policy will operate directly between the insurance company and named beneficiaries once the company is aware of the death.

Generally, life insurance proceeds you receive as a beneficiary due to the death of the insured person, aren't includable in gross income and you don't have to report them. However, any interest you receive is taxable and you should report it as interest received. See Topic 403 for more information about interest. - Source

Almost every single plot of 195 land has buildings in the planning stages or already completed. Several buildings were proposed, funded, and built on the 195 land since this building was first proposed. The developer has owned the parcel for years and has had the green light to build for years. He doesn’t have the funding. As building costs & interests rates rise, he just keeps dumbing down the design and pretending he will somehow be able to fund this next version. The developer is unreliable and the 195 commission should put the parcel back on the market so someone with a serious proposal can build there.

Well, when my grandfather passed away in 2011, his estate was split 4 ways between my 3 aunts and my mother and they reportedly needed to receive it in multiple different checks lest they want to pay taxes on it. My father, divorced from my mother, just passed in November and we're just getting around to settling his affairs. It's hard with the way of the world right now and us 3 living in wildly different locals and time zones and just want to do it right and get back to our lives. We're cordial and polite, we just don't have that sibling bond that most people do.

I've never inherited money from anyone before. My grandfather passed away and his estate went to my 3 aunts and mother and they reportedly needed to pay taxes on the earnings in Vermont, New York, and Connecticut. I'm not too close with them either, but it's what I heard. So with my father passing, I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't need to pay taxes on my part. 15k is a lot to me in my life right now. 15m would be the dream, though. Barely known family member passes and leaves you 15m, is that not what people fall asleep dreaming about?

The only reason your wife and cat would be in danger is because of your actions. Stop getting aggressive with your neighbor.

If someone moves into a $4K apartment, it doesn't make the $2K apartment more affordable. It only makes it available which means someone living with roommates in a $4K apartment will probably move into the $2K apartment by themselves.

What's also likely to happen is a landlord will see that somebody moved to a higher price department, do a spiff and spit job to fancy up their apartment then charge $3.5 K.

Building more expensive condos will not do anything to drop the cost of an apartment. It only free up lower-priced properties which are still too expensive.

Yikes.

If you’re both turning left then you’re turning in opposite directions and you should go at the same time or whenever you want because assuming you’re driving in the proper line and are not towing something or driving a nonstandard vehicle there’s no way to contact each other.

If you’re turning left onto the same road as the other driver while the other driver makes a right turn, then that means the other person turning right has the right of way and should go first.

It’s really not a situation in which you should ever have to communicate at all with the other drivers around you.
