Actually Rhode Island is not even on the top ten list of states people are moving to.

Because RE on the Massachusetts side of the state line is even more expensive, and our state’s NIMBYism means there’s no new housing being built at the same time that RI is the third most popular destination for movers.

Eastern CT Solar in North Stonington, CT. He installed my system 6 1/2 years ago. A panel started to go bad this past fall, and he worked with the manufacturer to troubleshoot and replace the panel. An excellent small business.
Newport Solar is also good.

Definitely get some hot wieners while you are here. Order them “all the way”.

They ARE stupid in this state, but OP also stated they use A LOT of kwh so this is not just a case of crazy electricity bills.

Seems like they all suck and take a year to do the install. Sorry to say

I'll probably rig some up off grid on a homestead

How? Solar payback takes too long as it is and now 1/3 of the year has little return? With the job market today who can know they will be in the same home for 10+ years?

So your payoff is at 10 years. Mine is at 7. And we have a 20 year warranty on the panels.

I used newport solar as well. Was super easy. Rhode Island isnt an awesome place for solar, they said we get about 100 days of sun. That being said, my system cost 20k and gets me 2k a year

I got quotes from Sol Power, Newport Solar, and Tesla for similar systems. Tesla far (like 20k) cheaper than the others. Installation went well and am pleased over all.

EnergySage.com! It's a great place to receive and compare quotes from reputable companies that are local. They partner with national grid and the DoE.

Lot better than having your pipes freeze or loosing a freezer full of food. Also many other options can be had for half that. Just won’t last as long.

So you expect people who can’t afford to pay a monthly utility bill to be able to pony up $1,000 for a generator (not counting the gas to run it)? That seems an unlikely “solution” …
