Lol, they do seem to be running a grift, always asking for money to open a business, then coming up with reasons why it won’t work. No shade, but it seems odd with so many closed spaces, they could find something.

They do, but it was like $100 or $150 for 4 hours. The money doesn’t go towards the bill either, so it really adds to the final tally.

The Massachusetts accent is more removing R’s. I find RIers add them where they don’t belong.

My friend just mentioned that they were reading "Bowling Alone" By Robert Putnam and that seems like something that might be up your alley if you are interested in this kind of thing. It sounds like it might have some answers to your questions here (though, its from 1995 so not ultra modern).
